Description

A long one, with a few big changes along the way. Trying to be musically serious about a serious subject --- religion --- although there are no lyrics. No offense whatsoever intended to followers of any religion or otherwise unaffiliated believers. I just find it to be an interesting subject for music --- all of this end-of-the-world talk, just to take an example. Mostly, this is just a bunch of baseless pomposity, you know, my kind of fun.

Mr. Kloo, this is quite magnificent! there were a few times it put me in the mind of YES (specifically "Close To The Edge"), the way you get the BIG synth sound. your various freesound um .... sounds .. are way cool and woven into this wild and intense tapestry with real skill. Excellent work sir! (my dog is slightly freaked out though)

Close to the edge
That's almost the best song ever. I suppose some of it has sunk in. I love those guys, but I never try to emulate them. I may as well try to write a novel in the style of Dostoevsky. Just too far out there. Anyway, sorry I scared your dog. This was intended only to send little kids scurrying away in fear. I guess I missed my mark slightly.

Len's proudest moment. My resume describes me as "Professional [...], half-assed musician, wannabe writer, father, vehicle for replicated genes, ..." so I don't know. I think, in part, that we are. Maybe there's more. I think if everyone would come to grips with the idea that the protons, neutrons, and electrons that make up our physical selves (which may be our entire selves) are billions of years old, and that those subatomic constituents used to live in stars, that would be an auspicious bit of common ground for us to start thinking about "The Truth." But that's not likely to happen in my lifetime.

Very artful approach in composition..such subject matter to delve into, The music says all that is needed since interpetation and understanding are for the most part on " individualistic levels"...thematicly speaking, this is a very strong composition and demands serious listening..I would love to hear this without the distractions of the vox...you are giving textbook lessons in artform here that bring my smile close to both ears...:):):)peace

Abz
A heady comment that is probably above and beyond the worth of the piece. The subject matter is huge, and I will probably do more along those lines in the future --- as soon as I get the time and fortitude. I don't think this one is fully developed, but it came out OK, I s'pose. The style itself I copied from tokai here at MJ, who is always out there pushing on the envelope. To first order, I use clips as a sub for actual vocals, to add some easily accessible humanity (light or dark) to the proceedings, but they can also be used to convey a thought or mood. I continue to explore. Thanks for your detailed comment. Much appreciation for that.

Ambient Prog Rock?
A great combination of sounds. Once again, the synth work behind that wonderful guitar, bass and percussion is fantastic. Tip o' the hat. The samples are blended extremely well and certainly work.

Do you know of "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts"? Old Brian Eno and David Byrne collaboration, very experimental in its day. It was the first album in which I heard vocal sampling used like this and it blew me out. They made use a lot of religious stuff too. You own piece sounds nothing like anything on the album, but would not be out of place on it!

Fantastic mix and a big, big sound. Much kudos to you sir.

My Kind of Fun Too
OK, first let me start with the "We're not worthy, we're not worthy" line. This is a terrific track and your skills not just on the axe but also on the drums and overall packaging leave me standing in awe. The synth drone start and the match to the chant is a most compelling way to get us going. And going we are with that syncopated rhythm at the minute mark punctuated by the hi-hat and the effective addition of the synths panned far left and right. The pick up at 2:30 is very cool, like taking us to a new level which gets filled in by the new drum patterns and swirly synths. Creepy girl chant is very riveting which you give lots of space framed by contrasting, almost spacey, synths. The use of the chants etc. to lead into different sections and the twists and turns in the development keep our attention locked in throughout, whether we are floating in ethereal pastels tendrils of light or bouncing through the caves of hell itself.

Enough of telling you what you already put in there. It's great, inspired, and I'm on my 4th listen, this time in phones. Downloaded? Of course!

"We're not worthy, we're not worthy" hahaha. P'shaw and right backatcha. About the chant, it was a matter of starting in B, which is the chant key, then moving it to D, which the almost finished song was in. So, I forced the D on the chant, and it works well (!), I think. But just for that second phrase. The chant goes on, but I cut it there because the D doesn't work beyond that. Anyway, I seem to get lucky with these freesound clips. Later on some of the clip tempos match the song tempo, although I didn't beat on that aspect. Just a coincidence! Luck again. Creepy girl is my favorite though. Oh, yeah, she is something. Anyway, thanks for your detailed comments. Your descriptions are so rich. Pleased to hear you say that this is your kind of fun, too. Excellent. Thanks again, Doug.

Star stuff.
Was the big bang the birth of everything? How did everything in an instant replace nothing? I don't know. I wasn't around then, or was I? I've read many times that human beings are hard wired to believe in a creator. Are we our own creators? In many senses, we are. Still, with no blueprint, how in the hell did we become? Religions are different men's explanations and I'm sure most of them got it wrong. This was huge and I think you sorted out some answers for yourself. I was thinking: what would it sound like to some intelligence, if "he" had a way of apprehending sound, if all that's here suddenly de-evolved, played backwards, back to nothing. I'll bet that would really suck. ;)

We are stardust
In a sense, the BB gave birth to everything, but at first, everything was simpler --- no atoms, no molecules, just, the basic constituents --- protons, electrons -- and light (some other stuff) -- which led to hydrogen and helium (some lithium, too). Only after the first stars formed did the heavier elements get made -- that's what makes stars shine. Stars die and scatter their "ashes." A new generation of stars form, with heavier elements, sometimes accompanied by planet formation. Earth formed 4.6 billion years ago, 9 billion years after the BB. What triggered the BB? (What does that even mean?) Open question. Is the Universe infinite? No. How did life start? Open question. Why does the Universe seem to conspire to produce sentient beings? Open question. Is everything the way is has to be, or are there other possible scenarios which would result in sentience? Open. What is consciousness? Open. Are we alone? Open. Are there gods? Open. And this last is just my opinion. Some people claim they know the answer. It blows my mind.

Oh yes.
Me, too, Les. That it became is more mind blowing than how it became. Religions' answer is not really about explaining that but offering the idea that a life after death will answer all questions. The ancients thought they knew more than they did. We know that we know nothing. I just want to ask "What happened to my cat who disappeared?" Thank you, professor. :)
