Description
This one was started in September 2010. The Rays were playing, but the game wasn’t on TV. (I know. Why does it always involve baseball?) The only way to catch the game was to listen on the AM radio. We had a radio out by the pool. So I headed out to the patio. I brought along my laptop, interface, and Les Paul to see if I could come up with a song idea while listening to the game. I did.
I think I did the entire guitar and bass parts that evening playing to drum loops. I left the solos for a later date. I struggled with coming up with decent solos. But a few weeks later I saw a Stone Temple Pilots’ concert on TV. On one tune Dean DeLeo played slide on a Telecaster. I thought to myself, “I have a Telecaster and a slide!” Done!
And then it sat until December of 2011 when Mike emailed to see if I had anything that needed drums. Sure I did. So I dropped him a mix sans the drum-loops. Of course he nailed it!
And then it sat until a few weeks ago. I was talking on the phone with Chris (Rok41). We were just shooting the breeze when he asked if I had any collabs in the works. I told him about this unfinished track. He suggested I get Sam involved to do vocals. I immediately thought to myself, “Duh! Why didn’t I think of that! The next day I was at a ballgame. (I know. Why does it always involve baseball?) Thanks to the iPhone DropBox app I was able to get Sam an invite and the file right from my seat while eating a hotdog.
About a week later he sent a rough mix of the song we present here. I was blown away. Not only is Sam an excellent singer. He has a knack for coming up with great lyrics, amazing harmonies and background vocal parts that could stand all on their own as main melodies. The “falling into depression, too late for confessions,” knocks me out every time I hear it.
Big thanks to Sam, Mike, and Chris. You guys rock. This track sits and waits no more.

Lyrics
Alone on a River
By sammydix & alackbass
I realize
It's getting kind of late
You cling to me like your very last cover
Maybe I, should wait until daylight
Before you take me like a hungry lover
Moan
Why are we out here
Hiding from a crime
This is no safe place
For us to wait around
They still have their ways
Come and hunt us down
Feeling like a fool
(falling into depression)
Listening to you
(too late for confessions now)
I must have lost my mind
Alone on a river
Now stuck on a river with you
Stuck on a river
Alone on a river with you
Cool night making me shiver
This isn't where I choose to be
It's just been days
But feels like a lifetime
Don't make me beg now
Upon my weakened knees
Why not turn it all in
Don't wanna be that "wanted" man
This is no safe place
For us to wait around
They still have their ways
Come and hunt us down
Feeling like a fool
(falling into depression)
Listening to you
(too late for confessions now)
I must have lost my mind
No!
I want out now
I don't want to
Deal with this
Now.
Alone on a river
I’m feeling something
Like a driver for hire
I’m feeling something
Like I don't even know
I ask myself again
The same stupid questions
Was it all worth it?
Is this what I wanted?
Yes I believe I think it's now time to go
This is no safe place
For us to wait around
They still have their ways
Come and hunt us down
Feeling like a fool
(falling into depression)
Listening to you
(too late for confessions now)
I must have lost my mind

For us to wait around
