Description

In the middle of a few songs at the moment so I thought I would re-post an earlier song that has been updated.

I posted a version of this song just over a year ago (www.macjams.com/song/67473 and Freddy felt it would be great with some horns so he asked if he could post it on his F-Jam site and see if we could get any takers. It sat there for a while until Billy Playle added his very considerable musical talent to it.

Billy has been recording some songs with Songwriterz recently (I recommend you check out their music – Heidi has a great voice) and I had done a collab with him and Freddy previously that was well received – The Top of My Game. Billy is a multi instrumentalist and the guitar solo he did on “Top of My Game” is still one of the most musically coherent solos I have heard on MJ. Check it out if you didn’t first time round.

Billy added horns, a real funky clav and some additional percussion. The rest is all me (and GB ☺). I re-did the vocals and re-mastered it.

Messing With My Heart
Hey Peter, this is cookin'!! I love R&B and especially like horns. Freddy recently turned me on to Billy's talent and I was very impressed ... my kind of stuff for sure. No matter what direction music takes me R&B,funk and blues are my roots. Anyway enough about me .... I love the bluesy guitar playing in this ... It's like BB King dropped in for a session. The groove is so hot, bass and drums in the pocket (who's doing the funky bass?) and that clav is the icing on the cake ...excellent Peter!

Niiiiiiiice!
Lots to like here Peter - like the groove, and everything gels really well. I do have a nit though - I can barely hear the bass in the mix, when it should be a feature in this style. Maybe the vocals could be a little further back in the mix for added authenticity, but not really an issue - you're singing really well. A good bass part would make this really nice indeed.

Bass blues...
Hi Neil. Glad you thought this turned out OK. The funk slap bass is a GB loop cut and transposed. I think that it is audible in the mix but probably perhaps not as deep as it could be and it gets a bit lost. I posted the original when I'd only done one collab and I wasn't in tune with asking other MJ'ers for help. I appreciate your feedback re the mix and I will have a bit of a go at tweaking it. Of course, if you feel inclined to do a bass track... :-) Take care, Peter.

I love those...
...crazy little rhythmic things that pop up now and again—kind of forced triplets or something that just pump energy energy energy into this great tune. This is really an amazing number. Wow. Those little guitar licks that pulse under the band make this piece smoke. And, of course, the horns brighten up the whole thing in just the right places. Great guitar leads, too. There's a "real" feeling to this production that makes it sound like a well-produced live recording. Much in awe of everyone's talents here. Glad I caught this great number.
