Description
Written in 1917 by Victor Herbert. I first heard it sung by Ella Fitzgerald. I'm pretty sure she wasn't using autotune.

Impressive work, Mark. I do love the opening sequence where you have the bass and chords/melody happening together. Nice single note section too. The life and bounce make it especially fluent. For comparisons, I have to go to Martin Taylor, who is on my list of "Best in the World" guitarists. The tone of the guitar is beautiful - glad you went for a modern sound, with some sustain and reverb rather than the traditional woody sort of sound. Thanks for the download!

Well
being compared to Martin Taylor is quite a compliment, but I think I would have to practice for 50 years or so to get close to that level.
Thanks!

This is fantastic… like Joe Pass. As others have said, the sound is really nice too. I love your voice-leading; you make the guitar sound like a trio. You are a fantastic musician.

Loved it!
I first heard this on a Glenn Miller record and the song has always stuck with me. Mark, as always, you are a pure joy to behold; this was exceptionally well done! I had to work 2 weekends in a row, so have not been able to do a lot with our project, but will shoot for next weekend. Thanks so much for sharing this--you're the best! Michael

A lot of people think that...
...but Ella was totally about AutoTune. And she used a delay. The scat stuff could get really tiring, but you could sing a single syllable, hit the delay pedal on the floor, and dial in different pitches on the repeats... All of this stuff was tube technology, war surplus stuff...

You've got yourself a really full guitar sound here, Mark. Very balanced. Whatever you're doing, it sounds great, sound wise.

I think you did a great job on the performance, too. To my aging ears you sound right in the pocket, time-wise, with nice, relaxed swing, and a vibe that all the melody and harmony bits are falling naturally under your fingers...

Typically cool track.
I continue to be blown away by the remarkable skill you bring to your instrument. Those very bluesy chords sound particularly nice as you slide from one to the next. Whar makes your interpretations so enjoyable,Though, is the absolute musicality of every note you play, always well -considered and played with that wonderful rubato that can only come from your complete understanding. Nice.

Man.....
You hit the nail on the head, with this one....
Yes...she didn't need autotune, because she knew where the notes where never had to look for them, she felt them as they came out of
her mouth like speaking a thought off the top of your head....
Sounds like you felt this one to, knowing you had to work for it you did
a real good job of it.....

Very well done....I can almost hear her voice between the notes.... :-)
