Lyrics
Silence of the Silver Age

silence of the silver age
silence of the silver age
secrets of the longing
and the fear and loathing
from those of the golden age
buried are the lifelines
seeking silver linings
where the words are stowed away
when you hate it
when you loved it
when you made it
when you need it
when you show it
when you tell it
when you hear it
and you think you know

silence of the silver age
best laid plans are always made
silence of the golden age
and the tears that you had laid

silence of the silver age
silence of the silver age
where no one has nothing to say
silence of the silver age
avoiding all the dangers
from eyes and daggers
and of those that point at your face
when you great it
when you eat it
when you hide it
when you feel it
when you heal it
when you think it
when you spend it
then there is nothing to show

silence of the silver age
best laid plans are always made
silence of the golden age
and the tears that you had laid

silence of the silver age
silence of the silver age
down to a long lost story
silence of the silver age
buried are the lifelines
from the silver linings
where the secrets are laid to waste
when you hate it
when you need it
when you think it
when you say it
when you lost it
when you know it
then there is nothing to show

silence of the silver age
best laid plans are always made
silence of the golden age
and the tears that you had laid

Where do you even get these ideas? So ambitious and so well done. Sounds like a real challenging track to construct. Layer upon layer. The mix must have involved a lot of work. This is an exceptionally impressive track.

not so tough really. i would work it out on guitar, then practice, at that point i can start hearing how other things might come into play. by the time i record i have a pretty good idea of where i'm going. the hard part was having to work slowly due to tennis elbow. but it may having given me some time to think on what i was doing for the edits

on the pod for the walk
This song resonates in many of my musical pleasure points. The vocals tweak something that I like that's David Bowie- Kinks-ish - complimented by your unique style. It's like a music production lesson for me. Guitar bass trips go nice places. It's an arroyo walking song.
Thanks!

when garageband first came out, my goal was to create songs that i wanted to hear. nowadays i won't listen to my recent stuff for several months, maybe longer. i think it's the creating process that gets me off these days and moving on to the next project of course

doh! violence of the silver age would been so much better. i had 2 different solos that were more intense, neither i liked so i went with something way simple. going up beyond the fretboard had me holding my hoping to hit the right notes

Actually
there's a silver age in comic books — Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-men, etc.

Loved the tune Vic. Add me to the throng that thinks you've really got something going with the Bowie-esque vocals.

I dig this. Cool vocal and really interesting melody. Sounds like what the Doors would've sounded like if they'd survived into the eighties,
and been produced by Steve Lillywhite. Love the twangy tremelo guitar & the slide solo.

Peter Gabriel is right on. Now that I think of it, you are a hybrid of Tom Petty, Bowie, ELO, Gabriel and Harry Georgeson.

Great one indeed Vic.

Personally though, I want to know more about the cubic zirconia age...

I love the raw, etherial sound on this. In some spots almost like a dream being punctuated by flashes of reality. Very nicely done! Thanks for sharing.

This is a good mix ... an excellent composition ... lots of pieces intertwining ... my favorite are the guitars ... that slide is haunting. Alchemy produces some trippy sounds panned around my head. A well produced piece ... very creative!

you know Vic, it's always just such a pleasure to hit "play" on a song of yours. i know i'm going to have a great listening experience and have just that much more respect for your musicianship. this song is chalk full of great ideas - lyrically, thematically, auditorially. and on top of all THAT ..... i love that you live practically in my backyard! (we just took our first trip of the season over the north cascades hwy on the bike last weekend - 12 feet of snow on either side of the road up at the summit(s) in beautiful, bright sunshine. we live in nirvana!)

A lot going on...
...I listened twice and am headed for No. 3. What a very intriguing piece. All those tempo/meter changes are so clever and so pointed. Great guitar solos, too, esp. that lead around 2:35 with all the bent strings. That is so cool. The whole concept of this number is so absolutely unique to me. Wonderful production. (I wish I understood the poem.)

Silence of the Silver Age
You probably didn't intend it this way but for me the lyric is a metaphor for how middle-aged people are being tossed on the scrap heap too soon. Musically ambitious and you pull it off with style. Another great sounding mix.

I can hear some gloomy poignancy in this piece that somehow resonate with me very much. You take it up another notch from your already very high standard. Congraturations on this masterful piece. Ah, and sliding guitars FTW!

Yup...definitely
a PG thing going on here.......ands I do not mean PG Tips (a brand of tea in UK)either.....some of his lyrical ideas have come from so far out of left field that they actually started in the right field !!

To me the lyrics and song are evocative of the "Age of the Silver Screen" which started as silent movies so therefore it all makes sense to me ........ 80)

Mr. Holman!
You've always been one of my top favorite MJers and hearing your sounds again brought back a lot of memories.

This song is one of those that I wish I wrote... I really never thought of the "Silver Age" myself but after hearing this, I'm as curious as you are about it. I can only imagine the fun underlying the writing and recording of this tune.

I don't know what to say... this is amazing on so many levels. I need to go back and listen to what I've missed from your songs over the past year!
