Description
Well after a break of far too long Steve and I got together for a really fun afternoon and this was the result. This all started with a really weird dream I had where I had gone back to my old town and walked into my old school. In this dream I went in through the front doors, turned left down the corridor and second right into my old form class. When I went in there was all my old class mates as they were in about 1976. My form teacher was at the front of the class, he looked at me and said, “Ah Mr Spruce glad you could join us. Your 35 years late, I hope you've bought a note” At that point I woke up!!
Anyway the lyrics developed out of that and a few little various demo versions have been recorded in the last couple of years until we got down to doing an essentialy live version with a number of overdubs. The timings are a bit out in places but the extended jam at the end was the best fun we've had in ages. Two guitars a mandola and a great laugh. Hope you like it.

Lyrics
The Lesson
Your thirty five years late for school Mr Smith
I really hope you bought a note from your mother
You’d better have a damned good excuse
Put your homework on my desk and find your seat
‘Cos the lesson today is life
And how we all get through it
Yeh the lesson today is life
And how we all survive
Oh teacher tell me is this just a dream
Am I really back in your classroom once again
I always thought you knew more than me
Is my lifeblood flowing from the point of a pen
It’s been thirty five years since I sat at this desk
My faded name is still carved in the wood
A thousand memories flood my empty head
How can my being here do me any good?
You can’t do this
And you can’t do that
Some people just bend like glass
And shatter
It’s so good to see you once again
That late night heavy meal bought you to me
I’ve tried to follow your teaching in this lesson
No matter where I hide you see right through me
And the lesson today is life….

Man, I'm sure we all can relate. Nightmares about school days. Great lyrics. I like the acoustic arrangement. Great guitar sound!
