Summertime

Description
I think this is another fine example of beautiful music that was written such a long time ago. This one by George Gershwin and Dubose Heyward in their 1935 stunning Opera, Porgy and Bess.
I have taken the liberty of showcasing this gorgeous melody by using several instruments on my KORG, along with the piano. Sit back and relax, I'm hoping my arrangement will sooth your soul. (I hope, I hope, I hope....)

Consider my soul thoroughly soothed! I like the flute sound taking the melody. Are you doing anything special to manipulate the vibrato? Whatever you're doing, I like it. I always enjoy your gentle approach to piano accompaniment. Very musical without ever getting in the way of the featured voice.

I'm so glad
this worked for your discerning ears, Andy. No I didn't do anything special for the flute, except that one of my daughters was a flutist, so when I play the flute instrument on the keyboard, I try to hold the notes the way I think she would have played them. I do the same with Clarinet and violins - two other daughters' instruments of choice. Thanks once more for your great comment! love ya!

I like
the tone in that flute -- this sounds like a track someone like Lonnie Johnson could have thrived singing over, if he had been into instrumental arrangements. It's got just the right amount of stillness.

Oh Sylvia, this is one of my favorites from you...the pacing is patient and understated and really lets those flute tones breathe. I love that you change the chordal structure but stay true to the melody, it's a sign of someone who is secure in their craft, and beautiful in their approach.

Summertime.....
as I look out of my back room window over the mizzle topped rooves and the backdrop of the threatening rain clouds I wonder what Summertime is ! I don't know if you have had as miserable a June as we have over in UK but this certainly lifts the mood a degree or two.....now where's me mint julep !!

I can remember many a New England June such as you describe. I guess we all have to have our turn. I'm very pleased that you tuned in and you were able to 'escape' for a few minutes. Thanks for the listen!

One of
the most emotive versions of a favorite I've ever heard. You had some fun improvising. It conjures sweltering heat and pent up desire.

Hi folks. I hope you will enjoy my piano tunes. I play and arrange them all on either the Yamaha Clavinova or the Korg keyboard, never use backing tracks or loops. But if if I decide to try that someday you'll be the first to know!. It feels real... [see more]
