Lyrics
L.A. SUITE

Music and Lyrics by Mark Westerfield
(except where noted)

A) PRELUDE (It’s a Sham)

IT’S A SHAM
IN THE SKY LAY BROWN LAYERS
TRAFFIC JAM
TOO MANY LONG COMMUTERS
SO WHAT’S THE PLAN?
WE NEED MORE SOLUTION MAKERS
WHO GIVES A DAMN?
IN THE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS
THAT IT’S A SHAM, IT’S A SHAM

B) IN MY KIND OF CITY Starting at 3:16

TO BECOME WHAT IT COULD
IS A PLACE WITH A CENTER
LIKE OUR HOLLYWOOD
IN MY KIND OF CITY

BE A CITY FULL OF WALKERS
IN SHADE OF TALL CONDOS
WOULD BE BLISSFUL & BONKERS
IN MY KIND OF CITY

CONTAIN URBAN SPRAWL
DRAW ‘EM ALL BACK IN
AND LIVE MORE VERTICAL
IN MY KIND OF CITY

PEOPLE COME TOGETHER
FROM POCKETS OF MADNESS
IN A SOCIAL MIXER
IN MY KIND OF CITY

C) PIGEON ON THE L.A. SUBWAY 4:45
(Music by Ron Hernandez)

I’M A PIGEON ON THE L.A. SUBWAY
LETTING THE TRAIN NAVIGATE
GONNA RIDE IT ROUND TRIP
I’LL BE DONE BEFORE IT’S LATE

TODAY I BEGAN FROM UNION
LAST TIME FURTHER DOWN THE LINE
SOME WOULD SAY I DON’T BELONG
LIKE I AM OUTTA MY MIND

I SEE TOURIST FROM JAPAN
A FILTHY HOMELESS MAN
A CENTRAL AMERICAN
A WORRIED LOOKING BUSINESS MAN

D) SKYSCRAPPERS 6:35

E) BACK TO THE OUTSKIRTS 9:30

AS MY DAY DRAWS NEAR THE END IN TOWN
I SEE AND FEEL WHAT TRANSPIRES AROUND
I ROARED INTO THIS BUSY MAZE WITH THIRST
NOW I’M CRAWLING BACK TO THE OUTSKIRTS

TO THE CONVENIENT MODEL COMMUNITY
AND MY CONTEMPT FOR ITS DULL SCENERY
I’LL WAIT THERE FOR THE “GREAT INVERSION”
MAYBE I’LL MAKE MY OWN BOLD CONVERSION

Love those guitars - they hit hard! The solos throughout are excellent. I like the way you arrange this - letting the vocals be the focus, adding variety with the keys and the guitars, solid drums. Interesting and thought-provoking lyrics. Neat riffs to keep things together. Impressive work!

The extended intro reminded me of classic Styx (think Grand Illusion). Compositionally it recalls some of Jim Steiman's work. Solid arrangement, production, and mix.

Thx, I haven't heard "Grand Illusion" in awhile, I'm gonna go listen to it. Jim Steinman I believe is with Meatloaf. I'll check him out as well.
