Description
Inspired during one of my later trips to New York, this song is a metaphor for a bout of depression I had experienced (when visiting those shadowy right-brained places) as a much younger man .

The Lower East Side

Intro
Verse one
I tell you truly
That I nearly died
When I took a walk
Down the Lower East Side
For I was alone
But had never outgrown
All the lies that
I told to myself
Verse two
I wasn’t certain
That I’d make it back
For the road seemed so long
And the night was so black
And the burden I held in my hand
Was a feeling of wanting to feel
I was loved
Verse three
The further I traveled
The more I was lost
Averting the truth
While denying the cost
Convicted of stealing
Some measure of healing
All eyes turned away
As I crossed
Verse four
The pathways were strewn
With the fears from my past
Every turn that I took
Just a step towards the last
‘Til stumbling in blindness
Towards some sliver of kindness
I managed to
Find my way back
Instrumental
Resolve
For I tell you truly
That I nearly died
When I took a walk
Down the Lower East Side
For I was alone
But had never outgrown
All the lies that
I told to myself
