Description

My pal Reggie Pole (or whatever he calls himself these days) gave me some of the backing synth tracks for a tune he has been working on forever. I stretched them out and made them into this ambient piece about the Moon. Reggie was aghast. All he had to say was, "What, no drums?!" Well, can't please everybody. I hope you like it anyway.

My goal was to normalize to 0.0 dB, but I give up for now. It's maxed at -3.0, but the light blue part on the Audacity display looks fairly fat (that's technical talk, eh?). Bloody synths. If it's not loud enough, please let me know. Any other comments, criticisms, or advice are always welcomed. It's a learning experience.

	Ex, for extremely beautiful. Nice to find that Reggie is gone but not forgotten. I could listen to angels clarions forever. Music to explore the innocent desires of the mind: peace, contentment, belonging and perhaps, love. Drums would've brought a little violence to this gentle piece. Good call. Well now
Without even listening all the way through, I've DLed this. I know I will like it! Opened the file in Audacity and upped the volume by 3dB without any clipping! There're a couple of peaks on the left track around the 2.30 mark which you could get rid of with a limiter, so I guess you could get another dB too if you really wanted. However, why bother? I have a volume knob here you know.

Anyway, the music is gorgeous and has your trademark sound. I'm loving the key change and swirls around the 5 minutes mark. Beautiful. It will join the others, thanks.

	Hi, Dave Thanks for the analysis. Believe me, I said to myself many times, "I wish I could just send this off to davajonah and let him fix it." Ah, but a belated revelation to me is that the technical aspects are often more than half the battle in this genre. I didn't really appreciate that until recently. Must ... learn ... more. Nice to hear from you again. This sounds real nice too. Towards the end where there are some quicker notes it's fairly noticeable that it is a stretched song, sounds a bit "unnatural" in places if you start to think about it. However, in the slower sweeping parts it's plain beauty and very "spacey". (Reminded me a little of Vangelis' album Invisible Connections, originally published on Deutsche Grammofon (?) to make it sound better on their higher quality LP's.)

I wouldn't bother with normalization either - this is ambient don't you know ;-)

I lurk about from time to time ... in part to see if you've posted anything new. I know what you mean about the "unnatural" sound. Thing is, I haven't decided whether or not that's a bad thing. Mulling this over. Anyway, thanks for that comment. I always count on you for pointing out possible issues. Normalization ... yes, point taken. (It still bugs me, though.) Thanks!

Hi Duane....
I like this piece. It is a great piece to listen to without anything else on my mind. I can then try and follow the nuances of the mix. Paulstretch is a musical beast that I have played with from time to time but was never happy with the resultant mixes (over an hour long and never bothered to listen all the way through). This variation though is excellent.

	You've got the moon... DOWN. I like the pace of your chord changes and additions of instruments, all slow and measured and very effectively paced. what to say? just...hypnotic. can't wait to get home and listen on headphones. even on my crappy desktop speakers this is mesmerizing. very much works with the imagery of the title. ambient is such an art to me, such a talent. and you are so good at it. i've been totally taken in by Craig Padilla's "Vostok" recently and his ability (imho) to perfectly capture the feel of antarctic chill. in the same way, you have eeringly (is that a word?) created a moonset. thank you.

Beyond Atmospheric
What a treat. I love the choir like synth and the patient exposition as this piece floats by. The interplay of parts and their slow evolution as they whirl about each other in zero G is perfect. What is cool though is that there are faster melodic lines here and there, and later in the piece that give the piece more structure and direction as a contrast to the floaty bits. Really am into that synth sound at 5:57 and the other places it shows up. Could the piece be longer? - well I for one would sit attentively if you were ever to release a longer 'director's cut' version. For now though I am more than satisfied with what I heard. PS - no drums - no problem. We get our fill of great drum tracks on Reggie's or Les' sites.
