Hot Licks! &mdash 02/23/05 - 02:14:43 PM
The guitar playing on this song(s?) is really good. I don't really mind that the second part doesn't have structure. I don't think anyone would pick that up if you hadn't said anything. Keep it up!!

A good thing gooder. &mdash 02/23/05 - 10:11:34 PM
You've gone and done it haven't you?

You're like a tracker in the tundra hunting
jackalopes...lol just kidding.

Nice transition between pieces. Slick. Rich. Thick.
Incredible playing Franco. Very subtle, but not
understated phrasings.
I disagree on the structure. It sounds purposeful and
does seem to tie in to the first part at times.

The end wasn't what I expected, cool wah
thing...very original combinations of style and
sounds. I loved that flubby synth sound. That was
guitar wasn't it?
The mix was well done, considering your level of
experience (close to none) and i think that is the only
area where there is room fror improvement, great
panning effects.

I'm splitting your performance/production 9/7.

Santana's late night gig &mdash 02/24/05 - 09:12:54 AM
Love the Santana feel, Santana-after-hours. Great playing,
the groove, cool sense of improv. I'd vary the elec piano
so that it doesn't feel like a loop but a cat comping with
you in the session; perhaps react to the 4th chord
variation of that loop with different solo notes on
occasion, cuz its cool and could make for unexpected
choices. Very hip and enjoyable track.

Santana's late night gig &mdash 02/24/05 - 10:01:20 AM
thanks for the good criticism. it's much appreciated. yeah , i agree with
your advice on the 4th cord. i couldn't come up with anything compeling
on that so i more or less just stayed with the tonic. but, yeah that is
something i generally need to work on. that's more or less the reason
i'm playin these tunes on garageband, for improv practice. i look forward
to your future comments. thanks tobin!

nice variety &mdash 02/25/05 - 09:56:03 AM
Great guitar playing and overall concept in this tune. I
particularly like the shift from the first to second sections,
provocative chords (nice synth sound) and slower tempo.
Smooth!

Good use of drums, you vary them well. Interesting bass
line.

Tobin made some good suggestions on creating even
more variety in the middle section.

The panning effects were cool, but I think that the L-R
could be brought closer together; it seemed somewhat
spread out.

Very nice journey you took us on!

nice guitar ideas &mdash 02/25/05 - 01:39:10 PM
There is some nice guitar ideas.

Ya, there is some Santana influences.
I actually met him at a car wash, he lives near were I live.

Later on in the tune, you do sound more like Santana
than even in the beginning.

Nice tune
Thanks for sharing.

Funk, and Fusion.........Hell YA! &mdash 02/27/05 - 01:15:32 PM
In reading the description I am not sure what your
intentiion here is......is that sarcastic....? OF course it is.....

Hot Hot Hot is your bassline......and I mean that it really
sounds great. I like the way that it moves with the kick
drum without fighting, and it is nicely blended in perhaps
with compression and a gate. You know that I am a
sucker for a good bass line.

This song is so familiar to me, and I mean that it is so well
written that it just sounds the way in my mind that is
echoing my perception of perfection. Blah-Blah-Blah.....I
know............you know ........... they wish that they
new.......the deja vu......that I am getting from you.

I still wish you would tell me the answer to the question
that I had yesterday. Or maybe it wasn't you, wasn't even
this piece........perhaps the other version......I don't know I
just can't place my finger on it.

Only criticism that I have.........is that the guitar solo about
2/3 just doesn't have the guts or girth that the bass did in
the first. I think that it deserves more.......what I am not
sure.......it certainly has a really hard act to follow the bass
line that you lay out at first. I certainly could not do better
than this but I think that you can.

Overall 9-9-9-9, but you already know that I think.

Great Display of Funk, and Fusion.........Hell YA!

MidiMacMan.

thanks for the nice compliments man. Are you refering to the question you
had about the bass? like i said, i used the "treble reduction" feature and then
used the graphic eq, boosting 100hz,800hz,3k and 5k about 2 or 3db each. if
you don't already have it, you should check out "the musician's guide to home
recording". great book, it helps a lot. unclesamwich let me borrow it. good
shit!

Excellent &mdash 03/04/05 - 12:16:22 PM
Frank I need you. A real bass player! A real good bass
player! Let's see I could send you an mp3 with a crappy
rhythm guitar and a vocal. Then you could redo the
rhythm guitar, add bass and drums and re-eq the vocal.
Oh yeah, then it would be your song! Great all around
playing. It makes those of us who try to do bass on a midi
keyboard and don't really know anything about playing a
bass want to break down and weep. Your guitar and
composing nothing to sneeze at either.

Heavy &mdash 03/04/05 - 04:28:41 PM
duty playing there, really nice chops. Thats what I dig
about garageband, allowing one to improvise to the hearts
content. Love the energy and santana vibe.
