Description
Mix 07-01. recorded earlier this year about February.

This is a sort of alternative pop song which protests about the relentless world of audio bachground effets 'din'-'noise' -'row'or whatever you like to call it which accompaniies every documentry, news flash, advert, film -you name it. Years ago I used to be able to accept it more when actual music was scored alongside storylines to enhance them as this was skilled but today it's different. From what I can see of it all it now amounts to no more than some tuneless tosser just pressing synth pads as and when the mood takes him and calling it an artform! Explosions, bells, whistles, fanfares, heartbeats, sudden movements of air, drum loops etc.etc.. There seems to be a reluctance to let us watch tv in peace anymore.

Anyway my thoughts are perhaps better expressed in this song I wrote about it all. Thank you for listening and if you agree with these sentiments please drop a line to the concerned tv channels and tell 'em.

I hope you like the tune, thanks.

Lyrics
Background Audio
Written 2012
Verse 1
Every time I try to watch a programme on TV
I get background audio playing endlessly,
Background audio never in repose,
Background’s audio getting up my nose.
Verse 2
I can’t hear the words, tell me what he said,
Some noisy wanna be is doing in my head,
Playing over everything dialogue the lot,
Hitting us from everywhere with everything he’s got.
Chorus
Background audio, give us all a break,
Subtle as an A bomb corny like a flake,
Background audio’s filling every space,
Tambourines and trumpets, got ‘em in my face.
Verse 3
‘Cor blimey‘ give me strength don’t it ever stop,
The button pushing fella’s gonna have another pop,
Fanfares followed by a sudden whoosh of air,
Rumbles and explosions gonna drive us to despair.
Chorus
Background audio, give us all a break,
Subtle as an A bomb corny like a flake,
Background audio’s filling every space,
Tambourines and trumpets, got ‘em in my face
Break as Verse.
Background audio, give us all a break,
Subtle as an A bomb corny like a flake,
Background audio’s filling every space,
Tambourines and trumpets, got ‘em in my face.
Verse
No imagination, classy as a clown,
The button pushing fella’s takin’ us to town,
Predictable’s his middle name, woosh woosh, shoop.
He’s always getting ready to activate a loop.
Chorus
Background audio, give us all a break,
Subtle as an A bomb corny like a flake,
Background audio’s filling every space,
Tambourines and trumpets, got ‘em in my face

Repeat chorus

That was a bit of luck!
Just signed into my email to find a new song.

And talking of songs, you're singing mine. Maybe it's age but I think it's a lot to with who's producing the stuff and I lose the dialogue and end up turning up the TV only to find it makes no difference.

Great lyrics and as entertaining and quirky as ever.

Cheers

Dick

Hello Dick
So long since I've been on here I've almost forgotten what to do. It's nice of you to visit and comment. Much appreciated thank you. You know I have all but stopped watching tv as a direct result of all this rubbish. I think quirky is the nicest compliment you could ever give me because as far back as I can remember I always loved quirky music and humour myself. I have a few of these tracks hanging around which are even more quirky than this.ssss

Best wishes fella,

John.

it's all part of the dumbing down john. more noise means less content.
why work harder?
well done.

Julian, hi there
Dumbing down - you know you're right - more noise less content - absolutely true, you know I never ever thought of that. Thanks for the visit and the comment.

John.

trumpets
a song for modern times.
Love it! Love it! Love it!
And what lyrics!
That instrumental break is out of tho world.
The thing I hate is all these programme makers seem to have a stock pile of songs that they play in the programmes and they're all the bloody same.
I end up wondering if I've seen the programme already.
Anyway, sentiment shared.
Great song.
very much enjoyed
cheers

Hi there Kingbee
Thank you, the instrument used in the break was a Prologue synth as in Cubase. Glad you liked the song. It came together so quickly and easily that I didn't bother with it much for a while after it had been recorded and then a few weeks ago I played it and it seemed better than I originally remembered. A protest song I think.

Thanks again,

John.

John
its a happy tune of the craft these days. I was listening to a newscast on the radio today... it was taken originally from a 60 minutes segment and there were these odd sounds that were somehow dismebodied from the content... it really makes your point. I dig it....

Well that's a bit of fun - but has something to say about where we're going. Love the arrangement and the use of all the instruments. Good one!

thank you Peter
The song itself was written quite quickly, it was the obtaining and applying the sound effects that took the time.

Best wishes,

John

Wonderful song
And great lyrics!
You are absolutely right, and this is not only about the audio, it is about the video, too. Effects and a lot of cuts per minute instead of time to have a view to what is shown.
I would prefer less advertising and more content....
But, as always: It's all about money.

Greetings,
Bernd

thanks for listening.
Yes you are correct it is not always the audio -a good one to watch for corny video effect is 'physic detective' - you'll never stop laughing. It's real Alan Partrige stuff - so trashy.

I'm glad you liked the song.

Best wishes,

John.

Hi Bob
I'm glad you liked this song and thank you for listening and for making such encouraging comments. Regarding the subject here I have also more or less given up on watching tv as a direct result.- 'tis an infestation of epidemic proportions.
