Description
I went back to this tune and re- EQ'd the bass, and added a couple of conga hits that seemed to move the tune along better. One of the reasons I've been so scarce around here for the past year is that I've been working on the craft of mixing and mastering. I feel like I'm getting closer to the goal but not quite there yet. Onward and upward!!

that incredible bqss
is the trillion bass by spectrasonics. A little pricey but a bass must sound good. The best acoustic bass I've heard (other than the ones I've made ) are made by Peterson. Thanks for checking out the tune!

Well, the bass sounds awesome...
...and makes for a great start, and it only gets better when the congas come in...

Acoustic guitar tone is clear and subtle, very real/organic...

Great vocals once again... I really love the lead break...that's pretty much the sort of acoustic guitar sound that I enjoy...

Good Night
Great songwriting! You picked the perfect tempo to deliver those relentless lyrics. Great vocal! I seem to recall downloading an earlier version of this. Even still I'll take a copy of this one! Downloading!

Mixing and Mastering - onward and upward!!!
That's an area where I have the books but have not really taken to time to both really learn and listen.

Speaking of mixing, wow - that guitar is right there, and the intimacy you've captured is wonderful. And the rest of the elements (flutes, congas, bass and vocals) fall into their own sonic slots such that this sounds very pro!

As to the song, it's so upbeat I can't sit still. Lovely harmonies, energy to spare, and a rhythm that makes swaying along the only possible natural reaction. Guitar work is scintillating and you clearly have fast fingers. The trillion base is pretty darm realistic with a lot of variation in its character depending on how it's played.

Top rate song sir. Thanks for allowing downloads.

Doug

you are welcome!
In the percussion track I think it was really just one extra conga hit that changed the feel of this tune, that's one the things I love about music- tiny things make such a huge difference. It's almost like magic.

Good Night
Infectious, upbeat song with fine harmonies. The mix is very good. Nice balance with nothing sounding forced. Onward and upward (just more so than most of us :-)) Very strong song. Thanks, Peter.

I thnk
its the perfectionist in you, because your music always seemed polished to me and many others, but we can all go back and find things we could have done better. Thing is your stuff was red hot in the first place and yet you still improved on it...... love the congas and the harmonies are beautiful..... love it, regards M

Get me to the Carribean...
Congas always do that to me.
This is so full of energy and just plain life life life. ... Everything to enjoy here: great bass, lead acoustic guitar beautifully played, the congas always thumping along, and those wonderful pan flutes — or something like that. this is just beautiful music, period, and I am glad I heard it tonight. (I wonder if the vocal could come UP in volume just a tiny bit!) ... Wonderful number.

I'm very pleased with the bass as well. The Trilian Bass, and my friend taught me how to EQ it better so it cuts through the mix.

Your...
... vocal delivery sounds similar to something that I've heard before (and quite frequently too!) but I can't place whose. Anyway, this song is fabulous! Fine guitar work, fine vocals, and a total fine production. Congrats!

I'm glad you like it Yeman
I think I was vocally going with the knopfler, crowel, cohen, school on this one. But like you said it's a fairly common technique. Thanks for the listen!

A
wonderful bass intro and I love the percussion.
Great vocals as always and nice harmonies.
Some fine acoustic guitar playing and the pan flutes are nice and subtle, another gem for my collection.
Thanks, very much enjoyed.

about 2007 I received the gift of a presonus firepod. That launched me back into a love of music that I hadn't realized I'd been missing. Since then I've been writing and learning the craft of recording and mixing. I am now in two acoustic groups-... [see more]
