Lyrics:

PRESENT TENSE

We are only temporarily
We are only actions living out
We are only pieces here we believe
We are only pieces of a greater thing

Cradle rocks and the motion stops
One click away
from the tails of cats
in the silence that
whose whispering that sings
In the poetry
In the poetry of dreams
It's alright
we are only pieces of a greater thing
we are only pieces of a greater thing

Would you like to go to the manger
Would you like to go if it’s alright
Herder farmer fishermen and stranger
May we all sleep there tonight

Have you heard about the light above us
Have you heard why it shines so bright
Herder farmer fishermen and stranger
It may guide us there this night

It's alright
we are only pieces of a greater thing
we are only pieces of a greater thing

Stand and witness in the present tense
Lift and drape these words on you
We are only pieces here we believe
We are only pieces of a greater thing

Cradle rocks and the motion stops
One click away
from the tails of cats
in the silence that
whose whispering that sings
In the poetry
In the poetry of dreams
It's alright
we are only pieces of a greater thing
we are only pieces of a greater thing

I was drawn to this song &mdash 02/26/05 - 08:34:14 PM
because only one person had voted on it and no one had
given a comment. My comment is that this piece is being
overlooked. Well constructed, interesting melodic line,
especially in the verses.

Might be better placed in the Religious genre.

Personally, I like this best when there are no drums and
shaker. The guitar line is excellent, very well done. Sorry
this has been overlooked so far.

Great folkin' song. &mdash 02/27/05 - 03:05:06 PM
Glad I discovered it too. It's very well written lyrics
are balanced well with your simple guitar/shaker
arrangement.
Kinda reminded me of CSN, or Pentangle.

Not my bag genre wise though, but I can see how
others (Christian rock fans) would really dig it.
Religious or Folk categories might find you more
comments, fans and listeners...

Excellent example of simple is good.

Cool Vocals! &mdash 02/27/05 - 06:30:49 PM
This is really different. The vocals are really keen. Well
executed. I enjoy the mix...what makes this equally
interesting is that the vocal panning to way right on the
harmony gives it this off balance feel. The longer I
listened the more I liked it which is indicative of many
tunes. Great overall production too!

Superb! &mdash 02/27/05 - 07:09:50 PM
This is a strong tune. Beautifully written and played. Great harmonies. Passionate vocal performance. In fact, this is an outstanding overall presentation. Love the bridge, the chord progression, cool artwork, lyrics. Can't say enough about how this song made me feel. Curious about your microphone. Could you elaborate on your production flow? Thanks for sharing. 4 x 9

Thank you so much for your comments.
I have several mics, on this song we used an electro voice 635A.

"Number one choice of newscasters, the Electro-Voice 635A has flat response for recording speech and music for video. Will pick up both the desired sound and ambience for authentic audio.
The omni-directional 635A is widely recognized as the rugged "standard" for field production. It is so dependable that it is known as "The Hammer."
This is A quote from the web.

Lyrical poetry &mdash 02/28/05 - 08:52:23 AM
Really dig the lyrics. Love the performance, the tight vocal
work, the driving sense of melody and structure, the great
balance. The vocals don't have the audio presence of the
guitar work, tho, and could maybe us an EQ boost in the
upper frequencies so that they match up better.
Wonderful Folk-honest track.

sweet lovin &mdash 02/28/05 - 04:36:29 PM
Someone should give a dollar because this song is cool. I feel like I'm back in '78 except I wasn't alive yet, but you get what I mean. It always makes me happy to hear music about Jesus that is good and not bad artistically.

What's the big idea? &mdash 03/02/05 - 12:09:47 AM
Now you've gone and one it: posted a great tune here at
MacJams. This is top shelf. Lyrics well written. Vocals have
nice presence and are nicely synched up. Well-paced
delivery. Guitar is expressive and crispy-delicious.

Strange ... &mdash 05/17/05 - 04:38:23 PM
... I'm a sworn pagan, and I hear great respect for nature in
this song. So you see, it's a tune for everyone.
