Lyrics:
The Never Arriving

There are words
in this world
some in books
come alive in us

there are those
there are betrayals
and someone
never arriving

there’s people
who live alone
a home
never knowing

watching life
where that life
must be going
never arriving

I love the way
the water feels
Is it swimming
is it crying

just dripping here
through trees
This wetness
forever weeps

standing on the skin
of perfect words
perfect friends
connecting, accepting

There are words in this world
some awake in us
some come alive in us
some are just arriving

Any song in 6/8 and 5/4 gets my &mdash 02/26/05 - 08:45:09 PM
attention. I don't understand the low scores. There are
good things going on in this piece, including the guitar,
lyrics and vocals. What more do you need?

My favorite section is the water part. Excellent
harmonies. Thanks for posting. Maybe someone else will
find it.

(Might try using a mic on the guitar instead of the internal
pickup. Might give it a truer sound?)

Unplugged and connected &mdash 03/03/05 - 05:29:24 PM
Hey yeah! That's a distinctive approach to writing on guitar. It reminds of bands like Jethro Tull. The song makes me think of a big, orchestrated progressive rock band, but the execution here is minimal. Jethro Tull on MTV's Unplugged.

My knee-jerk reaction is to suggest you add depth to the production - fill out the guitar with EQ and reverb, fatten up the percussion, etc. But I think too much of that would undo the intimacy of the piece. Maybe just bringing up the percussion a bit and doubling the vocals would be enough polish?

I really enjoy the song writing in this piece and the nod to classic rock mixed with a personal intamacy.

Solid &mdash 03/03/05 - 05:44:38 PM
Wow! I missed this one somehow earlier. Thanks to Mr.
Atwood for pointing me to this. Great riffs and playing.
Raw but great performance. I agree with the others about
the production; mic that guitar or combo mic/internal and
all that business about fattening up the mix. This song
has lots of great progressive qualities and a classic feel.

This deserves much higher ratings. Also another case of
"There should be seperate rating categories for Production
and Performance. The production is acceptable but could
be much better, and the performances are great (barring a
few parts where it sounds like your hand might have
cramped up on you).

Impressive and very enjoyable to listen to.

I've heard some of your others &mdash 03/03/05 - 06:31:07 PM
but this one managed to slip under the radar for me as
well.

Very well constructed tune... especially liked the bridge.
The harmonies during this section were particularly
tantalizing. Fantastic guitar playing but I have to admit I
did not like the tone so I'll agree with atwood1956 on
micing the guitar.

Jethro Tull 1968 &mdash 03/03/05 - 06:36:12 PM
Yeah, I get the early Tull reference too.

I'm a sucker for odd meter too.

The bass is a too based on the root. Be nice to see it vary
more.

Good natural sound.

Impressionistic liquid diamond &mdash 03/04/05 - 12:13:15 PM
Man, you get raves from me too. I totally missed this song
in the pile, and it is a diamond. Rough and cool and I
really like the impressionistic lyrics. Right on. This is what
Alternative Rock should be!

Very natural sound and a cool beat you've played over.
Could be fattened up, but I think the sparseness works for
this track. As though I'm sittin' listenin' to a dummer and
guitar/singer in a coffee house.

Well done!

Stellar &mdash 03/05/05 - 11:44:50 AM
The guitar felt a little rushed to me in the intro, maybe a
little more sustain might help. Once the vocals kicked
inthough it was great. I love your sound. Reminds me a
little of Crosby Stills Nash & Young. Could use a little
fleshing out and mastering work, but it's a stellar piece.
