The Best Friend I Can Be

Description
Back in early February Gweaterman asked if I would be willing to come up with lyrics and vocals for a backing track he had written, and I immediately fell in love with it and agreed -- little realizing that it is very difficult for me to come up with a tune and lyrics for a backing track I did not create. I found the two counter melodies eventually but it took a stupid amount of time for me to actually work out the harmonies properly. And some of the lyrics were a bit difficult to navigate compositionally since I'd locked myself into a specific rhyme scheme early on.

In the end, though, the vocals sound exactly as I heard them in my head, and Clay's been quite forgiving about the length of time it took. We're quite pleased. So.

Credits:

John Mietus - vocals and tambourine
Clay Commings - everything else

Lyrics
In these troubled times we share
With no one there
Who seems to care
It's time that you were well aware
You've got a helping hand

And I'll be there without delay
Every day
In every way
There's nothing more I need to say
I'll do the best I can

And though you try to fight it
You'll find you can't deny it
You'll know you've got a friend in me

You know that I adore you
I'll always be there for you
I'm going to show you
I'll be the best friend I can be

Thick and thin, throughout the years
Through all your fears
And all the tears
I have made it very clear that I am here for you

And though you say you haven't lied
I know you've tried
To run and hide
It's time to set aside your pride
And say you love me too

And though you try to fight it
You'll find you can't deny it
You'll know you've got a friend in me

You know that I adore you
I'll always be there for you
I'm going to show you
I'll be the best friend I can be

You did a great job ....
... pretty much most of what I have posted myself is me coming up with lyrics and adding vocals to something that someone else came up with .... I like that this track has a 60's vibe to it ! Happy New Year !

Early 60s
Vibe to a T. Definitely digging this one. For some reason I keep picking my brain thinking it sounds like something else familiar but can't come up with anything. Anyways, this is a cool one. Great work!

Oh, now you're just showing off.
Your understanding of the way the 1960s rock and roll worked is obviously profound. This sounds more like a long-lost masterpiece from back then than something written in 2012. Well done both of you.
