Mr. Nobody

Description
I started pickin' the riff on my godin acoustic/electric ... put it down and built from there but when came to doing some sort of lead I heard a bit of slide ... never really been a slide player but I new I had one somewhere ... searched everywhere ... ripped open boxes and bags ... the inspiration was fading into frustration ... I huffed, disappointed, sat in front of my computer and noticed a double A battery on my desk so I plugged in the godin , set it to a GB blues sound and did my one take battery slide. I used Kontakt organ and blew some add lib harp.

I think everyone's felt like a nobody at some point in there lives...

I
love that riff Stan and that is some pretty neat slide playing, especially as it's done with a battery.
Great vocals as always and some nice harp playing too.
Love the organ and all round an excellent track, always a great production on your songs, great stuff!

Mr Nobody
What I especially like about this is the way you build it up to achieve a complex and continually interesting track from relatively sparse elements. Love the way you squeeze the notes out in that solo! Nice relaxed vocal, too. Great, Stan!

You cannot be Mr. Nobody...
when you can put together something as sweet as this: especially, if we believe your description, so easily. Damn fine work, Stan. A real joy to listen to.

Nice
Ha-ha .. I guess there was still some juice left in that old battery : )

"… A microwave dinner/to find his spiritual center" is an interesting contemporary thought. At least I think that's what I heard. (No posted lyrics to confirm it.) The verbal imagery all reinforces the plain-white-bread-existence that Mr. Nobody is living.

Nicely written .. nicely played .. and nicely sung.

Love the slinky groove and the melody you laid over it. Cool lyrics. Great guitar licks and harp. Mix and production are really great too!

I've been known to use a beer bottle when a slide wasn't handy.

Hi Andrew
Thanks for your support .... I'm not truly happy with the mix. I tried for an intimate feel in the vocals, that up close feel but it doesn't sound like it's fitting .... maybe more room verb.
Anyway, thanks again.

battery slide

LOL! When there's a will, there's a way.

Sweet blues, the mix is great; well distributed over channels (listening on monitors about 12 ft apart, and there's some stuff sounding well centered). Kudos for that

overall good sounding mix and arrangement, what with the harmonica, organ etc. - it all fits together very nicely indeed. enjoyed!

wow - really liked this right from the off, it's so unusual for me to like blues as a general rule mainly because I think it's difficult to come up with something really different on such a well used path, - BUT - here, you've pulled it off perfectly, so hooky and foot tappy. This is instant and well worth releasing as a single. In a word - wonderful.

You do what you can with what you got. Now you have to keep using double As when you want to do some sliding, haha. I am really digging that harmonica. Nice work.

Oh the blues, the blues!
So well-done but it's still got a bluesy grit to it. I'm so jealous of anyone who can play a harmonica like this. Nice solo too, great vocals, great riff... I'm such a fan. Also, that "where'd he go" at the end made me smirk.

cool!
I was hooked after a few seconds. Very cool riff, and everything you add to it works! The bass is a bit boomy and the guitar by comparison maybe a bit metallic, but I'm probably wrong on both. Such a good flow and mix overall though.

Love the harp too. I don't usually listen to Blues very much, but this - I enjoyed tremendously.

Thanks...
for your honest feedback regarding the mix. I totally agree about the bass and I think its the room reverb I chose on the guitar that's giving it that metallic sound .... in all it's simplicity, this was a hard one too get right. I still think the vocals aren't sitting in the mix quite right....
Thank again for your comments.

Liking the acoustic and harp opening riffing a lot. It slips oh so smoothly into the vocal. The organ sounds fantastic. Good idea for a blues song, too. The complete package, Stan. Much enjoyed. Thanks, Peter.

Nice
Welcome back to MacJams, me! What a fantastic first track to hear after being away for yet another extended period. This is great man. I love your riff. I like the flavour you got from the first half of the riff being real bluesy, and the second half real majory. If that makes any sense to anyone but me.

Great playing on all of it - the guitar, the harp. You've got a cool vocal sound too. Well done.

Can I suggest you get something like EZDrummer? The drum sound is left well behind by the rest of the production. This recording is worthy of some real, raw sounding drums. The drum programming is great - but the sound just ain't up to the task. Best thing I ever did was get EZDrummer - suddenly I've got a "real" drummer in my one-man band. Game changer.

Well done from down under.

I'd be careful as Ry Cooder is likely to steal this.

Splendid playing and vocals and it gives a whole new meaning to highly charged playing.

Very Good
Those spur of the moment tunes are usually the best. Especially if you have to improvise and all of a sudden you've got a cool new sound. Loved the rift and the way that you built it into a total song.
