Description
Remastered and reposted. I had some audio problems before, what Tobin Mueller describes as 'mid-range saturation,' in converting this to mp3. I used LAME on this conversion.

Redwing is a suite for guitar and piano. The four sections have been posted previously, but were intended to be heard together.

I. Redwing 2:59
II. Lullaby 3:47
III. Water 4:40
IV. Finale 3:08

Clean and refreshing
Another great example of your talent. Nice accompaniements. These pieces are something I need to play at work when I am feeling frustrated, to help me put things back into perspective.

Thanks KIS. Another great peace that has a peaceful, calming effect is "4:15

I love it all
Thanks, Peter. You have been very encouraging and I want you to know I
appreciate it. I'm glad you like Redwing. It is a favorite of mine because it
helped me end a long musical drought. After 10 years of writing nothing, I
wrote & recorded the opening to this suite, and began playing music again.

Putting it all together
The guitar is top notch. Excellent. The piano has a nice
quality, is well mixed and sounds real, but doesn't quite
match the excellence. Still, such a moody, emotive,
wonderful track. thanks for putting it all together.

Putting it all together
As usual, Tobin, you are right on the mark. I am really not a pianist, but I love
the piano, and wanted to include it in this suite, which really began as a
guitar composition.

Thanks for your kind words. (Right now, my favorite
piano piece is "Just Above The Ground." That is piano
excellence.)

very deep!
This is really great music. Like Tobin, I also am not sure about the piano, esp. the last section, as it doesn't sound as nice as the guitar sections, maybe a bit clunky in comparison to the pristine quality of the guitar, but I love the overall contemplative nature of the composition and the way the piano gets introduced serves nicely to enrich the piece with a different texture. As a guitar player that loves the piano too, I know where you're coming from, except it sounds like you actually know how to play the piano.

The dawn upon us...

as we listen to the sounds of the morning.
Slowly the sun peeks above the distant ridge,
The Redwing sings.

Beautiful.

The dawn upon us...
Thanks Jack. Experts on birds will recognize that this piece opens, not with a
redwing blackbird, but with a song sparrow. When I first recorded the bird
singing outside my window, I mistakenly thought it was a redwing, which also
has a beautiful song (which I now realize is distinctly different from the
sparrow's). But by the time I figured all that out the piece was recorded and
named.

Thanks again.

Guitarist in the landscape!
Your attention to emotion and production coalesce in this
suite. You have some rumbling in the left channel in Part I.
Wind? A thunderstorm? Very painterly song photo. Very
painterly guitar playing.

Thanks, Richard. I took the photo early one morning last summer. The rumble
is wind after a thunderstorm.

Ok, so the rumble
is in fact intended. What are the creaky noises? I must say
they distract. My guess is you have a squeaky piano stool.

Great playing, though! Should be quite marketable.

Ok, so the rumble
The creaky noises are actually the neck of the Alvarez guitar. Since the mic is
so close to the guitar, just an inch from the strings, I guess it picks up even
the soft creak of the neck as I grip it a certain way or bend a string.

Instead of a distraction, Vic, think of it as a true recording of the actual
event (?)

That's my spin. Thanks for listening.

I need your permission
What a wonderful piece so peaceful and tranquil. I will be
headed out to Japan for 2 weeks and will be visiting the
many gardens they have to offer. This track would be a
great addition to my DVD vacation movie that I will be
producing for personal purposes of course. Let me know
ok. Thanks for sharing this one. Excellent. You have a
great talent!

Nice

I can hear some moving around the seat that kind of loses
the feeling of the calmness at the beginning.

But love the quietness, it seems to get less distracting as
the music goes on.

Like those rolls, appreciated cords at the middle.

Those drone open tunings are a lot of fun.
Nice piano at the end there.

I like the nature sounds as well. I like how you make them
major at the start and finish.

Tom is it the " D A D F# A C#" ? = DMaj7
It really sounds like a D Mag7 open tuning?

"Soft, floating, open environment, spacious, ethereal".
I was playing that tuning today and it sure seems close.

Bill, this is in opening tuning, but it is a very unusual one: DADADF#. As you
can imagine, this tuning puts alot of stress on the upper strings. I sometimes
tune down to CGCGCE and then capo up 2, but it changes the 'color'
somewhat. Several of my pieces are in this tuning, including Figure Out Love,
a blues tune.

Thanks for your good words.

To:Tom

Ya, I received your email. I may have used those tunings, but I am not sure.

I like the idea very much of using a capo, I am doing that myself on one just
yesterday. I put it on the 5th fret.

But I think your right, especially if you have like an A on the second string like
in the tuning I thought you might of had. The de'tuned A to a B gets kind of
lose and sound a bit tinny A capo would have a warmer, solid sound.

Thanks

perfect theraputic music
This suite is perfect for decompressing, relaxing, taking
deep, soothing breaths.....reducing stress in these fast,
complicated times we live in.

It is a reminder that there are all kinds of music, created
to elicit the entire gamut of emotions and moods. Some
music is "actively" energizing, to raise activity levels.
Other types elicits sadness and reflection.

And other music, like THIS -- is definitely in the
"relaxing" category, a very important one. As I listened to
this laid-back suite, I pictured myself on a massage table,
getting theraputic bodywork. I think that you could
market this kind of music very successfully for
bodyworkers of all types -- any "modality" that involves
relaxation.

I would strongly suggest putting together a CD of this
kind of music and then contacting every massage, reiki,
homeopathic, and acupuncture specialist that you know.
Or even psychological counselors. I truly think that there
is a viable market for this kind of music, in many types of
healing situations. You do it very, very well!

And why not make a dollar or two in the process? This
music deserves to be playing during my next massage!

Thank you so much for helping me relax today. I have
downloaded this so I can play this whenever I need to
decompress, relax and breathe in that wonderful scent of
pines.

perfect theraputic music
I suppose there was a time, years ago, when I would have been put off by
your suggestion that I'm writing 'massage music.' Those were the days when I
imagined large audiences sitting quietly in rapt attention, hanging on every
note as I played my guitar.

Guess I have grown up. I agree with you that music serves many purposes,
and if Redwing makes your next massage more relaxing and enjoyable, that
is fine with me.

Thanks, Cameron, for listening, downloading, and suggesting a way for
me to make money from my music (a totally foreign concept).

wow
This is a beautiful one. I especialy like the few moments
when I hear both guitar and piano. They work very well
together and make up a beautiful sound. I also like the
part with animals. I also like the concluding piano bit a
lot.

The tune gave me a vision of a creation I would wish to
hear (from you, I can't because the tune I think of is in
your personal style). It would be a tune that started
somewhere like the concluding piano here. The tune
should contain more of the piano and guitar when they
dream TOGETHER. And also more of birds and animals
like this, not all the time, but coming in and out, and even
occationally taking significant parts.

Thank you for this one!
