Description
From Matt: The Orbiting rides again! After a lengthy hiatus (Lisa pursuing her solo career with a number of successful tours up and down the east coast coffee shop and arena circuit, and me finishing my pioneering advanced degree in astrobiology) we came upon the idea of collaborating again like old times. I can tell you that I'm so glad to be in this band, to work with my partner, and to finish the first piece of music we have set our minds and hearts to in two years.

From Lisa: I'm so excited to have finished a new Orbiting song with Matt. He has been incredibly patient with me while I sorted out a ton of stuff in my personal life (stupid reality) and I'm so grateful that the band is still standing. It's also awesome to back sharing something with all our friends at Macjams. We've missed you guys so much.

I've been thinking about how many of the most popular love stories are pretty dysfunctional on closer inspection. How healthy is it to take a woman, transform her completely, and only then deem her worthy of love? This song examines the crazy inherent in Pygmalion (and by association, My Fair Lady). We've always been influenced by Depeche Mode, but it's probably more apparent here than on anything we've ever done.

Lyrics
Can't remember, can't remember,
Who I was before I met you.
Can't remember, can't remember,
Who I am now I've left you.
What to wear,
What to eat,
How to speak
And why to cry.

Why did I never doubt?
Just knew I'd be all wrong without you.
Still don't know why I let you tell me,
Still don't know why I let you tell me,

What to wear
What to eat
What to think
How to speak
Who to be
And why to cry

Can't remember, can't remember,
Why I loved you when I met you.
Can't remember, can't remember
Why I loved you now I've left you.
What you wore
What you ate
What you thought
Or why I cried.

What would we talk about
If my thoughts weren't framed just like yours
If I loved the things you abhorred?
Still don't know why I let you tell me

What to wear
What to eat
What to think
How to speak
Who to be
And why to cry.

Eat Your Hearts Out Ed and Neil!
Go Karyn with the firsties! Thanks for calling the song a gift. Your support has always meant so much to us. Though I'd love to think we could make Gahan, Gore and co. eat their hearts out, it's really an honor to pay tribute to some of my musical heroes. I love those guys.

Precious Work!
Great production! The song writing is a reach, great to hear. Allow me to suggest that you put your ideas into things. So it would be, "The little black dress?" "No, the blue off the shoulder?" "I just can't decide." Again... show me, don't tell me. The girlie action here is huge!
The vocals make this project stand out as much as the ace production.

Lush and lovely listen
Besides your excellent vocals, the production and arrangement on this are superb. Wonderful layering of sounds and the simple harmonies are a minimal joy (if that makes sense ;-)
Enjoyed very much, thanks.

The pure, warm vocals are a highlight. I like the concept behind the lyrics - thought-provoking. Excellent light and shade in the arrangement and all the instruments are clear and have their own space in the mix. Much enjoyed!

Okay, we'll give you credit for delayed firsties, Neil. :) Thanks so much for taking the time to welcome us back. That's so weird about the notifications, but now I understand why no one has been posting songs. It's not that, it's that I haven't been getting notifications! Solid sound!
Here, you've made me log back into MJ! It took me a while, since I'm so far from this place in my heart right now, but you've made it well worth it...Your voice sounds really strong on this, Lisa. It's a noticeably different tone from some of the breathier early stuff. Maybe it's the subject matter, but it's standing out with a great crunchy earthy grit on the gorgeously smooth instrumental bed. Love it!

Yay! Jim!
You know, I was scared to death doing this one, Jim. I was rusty as hell and my whole studio has been re-arranged. It has been two years since I stepped in front of the mic. Weirdly, I can hear that it does sound more confident, so maybe all the listening to new music I've been doing has helped me pick up some tricks. This key also forced me into my chest, big time (Eb minor) so maybe that's part of it, too. Thanks so much for taking the time to come back to Macjams and both listen and comment. I miss you!

Hurrah!
I have to tell you, Steve, I was holding my breath for your comment around the lyrics, because I knew what I was trying to achieve with them, but was worried about the lack of specific detail. If I could get them past you, I was going to be happy, because I knew you'd understand the aesthetic. So, I'm relieved to get the echoroom thumbs up. Thank you!

God, would I love to hear DG singing this.

Yesssssssss!
I would say "normal service resumed" but that would be unfair. It would appear the two year 'break' has allowed you both to grow in confidence musically and Lisa's vocals to mature into something really slick and distinctive. Definitely not normal service at all.
