Description
This is a song I wrote back in 1986 during the New Wave. It has a touch of the wave what with the drum machine pattern and pad synth. It's a love song, almost a ballad, of what a guy is willing to do to get this one particular girl for his own.

The song was originally recorded on a Fostex four track cassette recorder and mixed with a Tascam four track cassette recorder to Garage Band through the MOTU Ultralite. I added the guitar into Garageband, and also tweaked the basic cassette track with Garage Band effects.

Give a listen and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Lyrics
Life of Crime

Everybody wants to scream and dance
When you put them through the things you do.
Does anybody get half a chance
I’d break the law to be with you,
To be with you.

Don’t remember how to play the game
When lovin’ you.
You change the rules it’s not the same
When lovin’ you.

Oh, oh it’s you
You bring out something inside
That throws me out of time
Yeah, Yeah it’s you
And what you bring out inside
Could make me live a life
A Life of Crime, Life of Crime

Everybody want to drag you down
And bring life to their secret lies.
For you my love
I would steal the crown
To live inside your liquid eyes.

Oh, oh it’s you
You bring out something inside
That throws me out of time
Yeah, Yeah it’s you
And what you bring out inside
Could make me live a live
A Life of Crime, Life of Crime

I like this.
First off the drum machine and synth set the tone and mood... Really nicely done. But the star here is your great vocal. Wow. You deliver the goods. You have a really good voice. Your expressive singing seals the deal. Two thumbs up.

Thanks Dadai.2
I really appreciate your comments. I always like the basic track which was the drums, bass, synth and vocal. I added the guitar recently for coloring. Thanks for coming by and giving a listen.

Thanks DA
I have to chuckle about the Bowie reference. I don't think it really sounds much like him, but he was certainly an influence on this track.

So good of you to come by to listen and comment. I appreciate it very much.

I listened and
like that this has been done over a long span of time and different technologies. Fine vocal delivery and guitar's a tasty addition.

much respect for anyone who can produce good sounds with a four track! and this is certainly very good indeed. I like the relatively understated arrangement, nice bass tones and vocals/melody. catchy chorus. applause!

Definite 80's vibe, Tim but still sounding fresh and engaging. You did a fine job merging the cassette recording with contemporary technology. Seamless. Liking the vocal, too. Strong post. Thanks, Peter.

Never even had a 4 track. I just didn't understand them. So something like this always blows me away. I hear the Bowie influence. Cool track.

Bowie like in a couple ways but still original in the content of the lyrics. Cool song. Thanks.

Desperate Sounds
The laid back vocal technique doesn't match the desperation in the lyrics? The bass line supports the goings-on, really great playing.
Thanks for sharing this great tune with us here.

Life of Crime
I can't believe I haven't commented on this !!- it reminds me of Roxy Music, especially the vocals - I love it. I liked the Elvis Costello-ish outro rave/rant as well on the fade. It's a real eighties feel piece of music.

Thanks John. I guess there might be a bit of Brian Ferry in there. Just make sure I get one of those English judges when I get arrested.
