Description
Hey everyone, got a little bored so I plugged in the ol' gee-tar. And I hate the way the drums are recorded. We were experimenting with mic placement and this is a good example of what not to do.

The Rush(in) with guitar!
I would say this is an example of what one should do! That bass is killer! The drums sound great!

Awesome
glad you like it. I've found better ways to mic the drums since this so I'm thinking it might be fun to redo the drums. We'll see what happens. thanks for the comment.

Rush(in)
I don't know if you meant it in the title, but this reminds me a bit of Geddy Lee, and I am a huge fan of Rush. So this one is right up there with my favorite songs. Tightly played and nice composition. Cheers.

Rush
and Rush is one of my all time favorite bands. On top of that, I used the Geddy Lee jazz bass

The Rush
Lots happening here. Full of energy. Everything works well together. The bass is inspired! Drums sound fine to me. All good!

The Rush(in)
Some killer bass (great tone) and rockin' guitar. Nodding my head and getting involved. The drum playing is quality work but I agree with you re the mic placement. It sounds like the guitar and bass are sitting in the middle of the drums. You last post had the drums wired! A fine listen, though. Regards, Peter.

I agree
about the drums. They just don't do it for me on this one. Appreciate the bass tone comments, that's probably the most important aspect of any song to me!

The Rush(in) with guitar!
I like the free spontaneous feel ... I'm getting Police and yes a bit of Getty in the bass. Fun stuff!
Cheers

YesYesZammm!
Sweet baseline, awesome drum playing, wish the guitar was louder in the mix. Drums don't sound bad, but I agree that the placement is a bit awkward. Perhaps the drums need a more narrow/centered spread as well as a bit more low end to the kick. Guitars could also be louder and panned wider in the mix. Definitely worth a remix as this song kicks.

I like your ideas.
I am definitely going to try that because I believe the panning is what's at fault here. I already added a bit more gerth to the kick so I will have to post it up here one day. As for the guitar levels, I kind of just recorded them as fillers and wanted them in the background mostly, Ill have to play around with it. Thanks for the comment!

Lively drumming.
Fine bass, nice guitar and a solid rockin' tune too. Like others I can't hear anything obviously wrong with the drum sound either, so the mic placement can't have been that bad. (You can take the carpet off the walls too, it will not affect how much sound the walls transmit to the outside world, only how the walls reflect sound within the room). For me the bass playing somehow stands out in this, not entirely sure why but somehow the bass player is being very expressive, better than most for sure. Hope your band is going to keep this quality of work coming!

Thanks Fire_Angel
that's awesome to hear. (I'm the bass player) and I love the tone of the jazz bass on this particular song so I'm glad to hear you guys appreciate it too. As far as the carpet goes, yeah I bet you're right... I think if I try Kicbal's ideas on the mixing it should help. Thanks for the comments!

Love how the bass carries
and I think the drums sound great. Nice changes and has a rocking melody to it. Very intense, super job. Enjoyed.

Right on
I think it has a lot to do with the fact that the drummer and I have been playing together for almost 10 years while guitars players come and go. We don't really need to talk to each other and the way we try to describe something in a song is just horrible, but we still understand. The energy is where it's at! Thanks for the comment!

Hey everyone! I love throwing up some ideas on here and seeing what you all think of them. I recently got Pro Tools 10, (very hard to figure it out on your own), and so far it sounds pretty good. All drum recordings are done in about a 10' x 10' carp... [see more]
