Description
King Solomon is said to have been the wisest (and richest) man on earth. Royalty from far and wide journeyed to Jerusalem just to listen at his side about the meaning of life. I've written the song from the perspective of someone who is asking some of these questions. The song is based on Ecclesiastes and the subsequent coming of Jesus. All instruments (except tambourine) are real. I used a cajon for percussion. You can a video version here http://youtu.be/9Ig-MicSlqY Thanks for listening!

Lyrics
Solomon, Solomon, teacher to the wise
You're wisdom is of God - what's the meaning of this life?
He said "the sun will rise and the sun will set and returns to where it rose"
"The wind blows north and south - round and round it goes."

Solomon, Solomon, teacher far and wide
gold we bring to you - to listen at your side
When he gazed on all he had - he turned his head and said
"When I die gold stays" - and sadly shook his head
"Dust to dust our bodies go - our spirits back to God"
"Then comes the final judgement - so follow all His laws"

CHORUS

Then love came down....thank you Abba.....Lamb of God....Heaven on earth
Then love came in.....Breath of Heaven....Holy Spirit.....living in us

Solomon, Solomon, tell us one more thing
When we're wise like you - how happy will we be?
"Much wisdom brings much sorrow - more knowledge brings more grief"
"What's bent cannot be straightened - so enjoy all you've received"
"Be happy, eat, enjoy your work - fear God while you still live"
"Life is like a vapor - a chasing of the wind"

CHORUS

Nice, subtle arrangement, Bradford. The acoustic sounds great and the percussion gives the impression of space in the mix. Some fine musicianship. Your vocal work is engaging, too. It is still wise to be rich, even now :-) Thanks, Peter.

Thank you Peter
This is the first time I used the cajon - a very versatile instrument! I've found that you can just about shape it into any thing you want to with what GarageBand offers. Yes, Solomon was all about enjoying what God had given you - life is like a vapor, enjoy it while you can. Thanks again for your comments.

A true narrative...
I think you have delivered this story just as it should be presented: simple accompaniment and a clear, speak-sing vocal to relate the story. There is such a wonderful authenticity to your whole presentation that makes this quite a joy to hear...very akin to a folk song, and just as poignant. You should be getting more listens for such engaging work. Don't lose heart. (I also like those little guitar fills and melodic runs that come in and out now and again.) This is quite a beautiful song.

Thanks Paul
Your comments are so appreciated (as is your piano playing!). You are right about the folk song approach - it is what I grew up playing and I enjoy applying it to the gospel message. Thanks again for your thoughtful review.

Nice singing your voice fits the subject matter , I dont know about the tambourine I think it would have been fine without it, just a small nit pick to a great song I enjoyed this thanks for sharing!

Thanks!
I know I should have taken that tambourine out!!! My wife also said she didn't like it - too mechanical. Thanks for your very valuable feedback - and yes, I will take the tambourine out.

Wonderful sounding recording. Lovely vocal well backed by your clear guitar playing. Nice intertwining clarinet lines. Reminded me very much of "Pilot's Dream" from JCSS.

A vapor
"Life is like a vapor.." The whole song expresses this. Well done. And such a clean recording. Like a dreamy improvisation, David on his lyre. Thanks for sharing this.

Beautiful guitars..
Lovely picking, and a beautiful tone! Sweet clarity and warm midrange, you got a fantastic acquisition with a Yeti! Great folk song, with old world arranging touches.
