Description:
Another song co-written with my friend Tracy. Lyrics and vocals by her and music by me. I couldn't resist putting this harmonica on at the end even though it wasn't in the right key and I could only find one note that worked. So go ahead and tell me I'm a goofus and to take it off. Any and all constructive criticism solicited. Or praise if it deserves it.

Hardware:
Alvarez-Yari acoustic guitar
Shure SM-58 mic
M-Audio USB interface

Software:
Garageband

I like how the lyrics seem almost improvised at times. And
the double time gives this blues a swing. The harmonica is
working for me too.

My criticism is slight -- as in many of your recordings, I
feel like the vocals need to be more 'present.' Not just
louder, but closer to the mic. And make sure everyone is
together on that double time. The bass seems to be
dragging slightly.

You are home grown, for real.

Well I keep telling her to get right up on the mic. I think what you are
referring too might be the acoustics of the room. It is a medium room and the
walls are bare so we get a natural room echo even if no effects are added. I've
been thinking about hanging some blankets on the walls. Maybe a condenser
mic might help also instead of my Shure SM-58 which I think is dynamic?

That's what I do. Clothes give it a real dead, true, quiet quality. Sometimes
too dead, though. Start throwing clothes out till you get the right liveliness!

Lots of cool stuff &mdash 03/04/05 - 02:28:37 AM
You have so many great elements. A great singer. Nice
guitars. I'd agree with you, it needs some pulling
together. A better arrangement. The shifts in tempo can
be awkward at times - I might figure out some different
transition, maybe striking a chord to accent the end of the
slow section, a beat pause and then uptempo. Just one
idea/perspective. It looks like you have a good
microphone, but it did sound kinda tinny for some reason
and I could feel some ambient room "noise" at the
beginning of the song. Anyway, I guess you could say I'd
like to see you work this song out -- could be really great.

Thanks for your comments. I keep telling Tracy that I am messing up her
songs because I'm not very good at recording and production - only playing
guitar and songwriting. But she insists I keep trying! Maybe I should just do
the basic rhythm guitar vocal track and then throw it open to anyone that
wants to do more production?

I'll answer for Tracy as she is not here but is coming into town tomorrow and
I know she will love the comment on her voice. I'm the guitar player so thanks
for that also. After hearing your stuff it is a huge compliment that you like
our stuff!

I really like the two chords used in the beginning. Very bluesy, and
soulful. I also liked the octave stuff on guitar, reminds me of Wes
Montgomery a little bit. The Harmonica is working, it works great as a
response to the vocals or guitar. Keep it up.
