Very nice work, Yves. It does have an epic, progressive rock grandeur and feels as if a story is unfolding as it plays out. I applaud your vision in developing this. Thanks, Peter.

Hey Yves, this is on HUGE production, and an ambitious effort, and you pulled it off beautifully. Lots of cool guitar riffs and a recurring theme give this an almost anthemic tone. Very nice work, my friend! Enjoyed!

Need More Data...
Great Work, Many Prog Layers, I hear so many parts that I love. I must ask that you divulge what guitar(s) you use, the opening strum parts - so nice and full and clean, the dirty rhythm parts, so nice and; well, dirty, and the lead, not to mention the bass. And I hear echoes of Rick Wakeman, Tony Banks, and Keith Emerson (Lucky Man synth).

Hello sir !
Apologies for the late reply. I'll try to give some details on what I did, but I would like to warn you, I'm really not too good in recording guitars. There are many others who excell in this.

I have only one electric guitar, an Ibanez JetKing. I just plug it into my DAW (through a recording interface) and use different amp simulators. Everything I use is free material ! For the rhythm parts, I used Cubase's amp simulator (it comes with Cubase itself), it's a "sound wall" kind of setting, if needed, I can give the parameters so that you can make a comparable setting on the material you use. But the important thing in the rhythm parts (dirty parts) is that I use some reverb and that makes the real difference. Secondly, I usually record the same thing twice and pan each recording left and right. That gives some fuller sound because in both playing there will always be small time differences, etc which gives the fullness. The clean guitar part is another amp simulator setting. There I don't need double recording because it needs "smaller" space. If I did a song with softer rhythm section, I'd certainly double that too. The lead parts are pretty much the same, with an adequate amp and pedal settings. I can give more details on them if you'd like the reproduce the timbre, although I must say, I use pre-established settings, and I'm not too good to create my own with the "virtual pedals".

Actually most important thing that makes the sound work is the EQ'ing. All these guitar parts sound awful when played alone, but I did the eq'in this way because they need to sound good in the mix. Each instrument's sound is influenced by the instruments surrounding it. For instance the dirty rhythm parts have some bass parts rolled off, although I thought, they would sound much better, alone, if I didn't do that. Though in the mix, if I didn't reduce the basses, it would overlap with other instruments (bass, some synths) and make it muddy. The real thing, in my opinion, that makes a guitar sound good is in the way to make it work in the mix. They may sound awful when isolated, but we always hear them in the mix, so what really matters is that it sounds good in the mix.

Please, do let me know if I can be of help for anything. Although, as I mentioned, there are some real talented folks who know those matters thousand times better than me.

Cheers

The Wish Granter
A fine production ... enjoyed the synth and guitar .... nice mellow build to where the drums and lead kick in. Good job with the drums. This is quite the complicated and progressive piece. Nice double harmony lead ... enjoy the guitar that comes in fairly clean at about 3:21 ... nice playing. Great ending!
Cheers

Glad to be of help. I think this final mix sounds excellent. Everything blends well. Song and structure-wise, this is very cool. Yes it shows its prog-rock roots, but you've also used enough current synth sounds that this has an updated and more current feel. Nice one!

Grand in style, this rocks! Man, so much for simple three chord tunes! this is complex in all of it's instrumentation and composed form...an 80 prog feeling at it's core, reminding me of Asia and or Yes. Fine work all the way round Yves!

Impressive opening had me in right from the start. The arrival of the guitar is good - strong and taking the piece in a new direction. Plenty of variety in the arrangement. You're a talented man, Yves!

Wow
Starts like a Tim Burton movie but then goes its own way as the prog influences come to the fore. Nicely done all round as you nail the guitar work and the drums and the synths. Big sound (kind of reminds me of Nightwish sans vocals). Thanks for the dload.
