Lyrics
When my father died at 46
I had no idea what that meant
To him or to me
He wanted a boat or a piece of land
In the end he acquired neither
He wanted to wrestle and have his back rub
I was required to be the believer

Last time I saw him was on the bathroom floor
He wanted to tell me stories about the war

Mama hid the medicine
and I mopped up the blood
Daddy slept in an elevated bed
He was the baby of the family
the baby of the family on more time
He had just turned 30 when I was born
32 when my brother came along
he went to school on the G.I. Bill
and listen to Nat King Cole
Sometimes right
sometimes you're wrong
sometimes you knew the truth all along
What do you call that thing that you do

Would you rush to my aid
if I fell from grace
Would you carry me down
from some lofty place
Would you give me a ride
if you saw me standing by the highway
He wanted a boat or a piece of land
In the end he acquired neither
he went to school on the G.I. Bill
and listen to Nat King Cole

A song that bites.
Sometimes music is the best way to express something, whether it's joy or pain. This one made me feel for your dad, and wish he had a little more of what he wanted from life. Brought a tear to my eye and made me think of my mother, who also didn't get as much as she deserved from life. Well done for expressing it so well, I hope "getting it out" helped.

A very personal musical journey, Tim. The half-spoken style and the minimalist but creative arrangement gives the story added poignancy. Interesting insight for sure. Thanks for sharing it with us. Take care, Peter.

love the minimalism to this piece at the intro... the bass is sweet and makes the tune! very cool - autobiographical.... glad to have heard this.

Dang...
My comment appears to have not made it through the ether.... Sigh... it probably made it to a bank in Russia and transferred 80 billion rubles to a named swiss account in Hitler's name... sigh... Let's hope I don't have the NSA on my butt...

Anyway here is try two... You are a music machine recently. This is smooth and cool and clean! The vocals fit so perfect. Nicely done!

Thanks for sharing. I dig the production on here. Plenty of space and attitude. Splendid.

Nice arrangement & vocal
I like this groove. Kind of a macarabe story but such is Life! Please take a look at my "Falling From Grace" song...it's a story you might like and I see you feel that in your lyrics also.

you did it again!
I always think when I finish listening to one of your tunes, "all those elements shouldn't work together (acoustic guitar, hip hop drums...) but they always do and brilliantly. I love your ear brah, even your use of reverb, you just make it work so that it really couldn't be any other way. And the noises! So cool, love it.
