Decidedly interesting!
Very nice use of dissonance - love how the chords go from harmonious to less so - impressionistic :)

The Deciders
I'm not quite sure what to make of this. On the one hand it's almost courtly in style, but there's also a Pink Floyd "The Wall" sort of feel which suggests something anarchical. Whatever way it goes, it's a fine piece of music, Charlie and a clean, clear recording and mix. Impressive work!

I'm not
always sure what to make of my music myself. But anything that has a Pink Floyd feel to it is OK with me.

Blue guys
This is more unbalanced than your other works in the sense that where it's going to evolve it never as clear as others which have this inexorable motion towards something. Here we have a feeling of searching, or moments of confusion or maybe it's disorder. Sweeping strings and nice dissonances here and there to play with tension, plus that beat which invokes motion even when direction is unclear. On my third listen now and you have an interesting weave between the layers of strings and the flutes. Nicely done and thanks for the dload for my CM collection.

Be well Charlie.

Some think
I'm a bit unbalanced myself but I know what you mean about this work.
While I'm found of it I consider it a work in progress. I've put up a slightly cleaner version on my website in which harmonies and melodies are more defined. I'm still playing with it so I'm grateful for your always thoughtful feedback Doug.

Charlie

THE DECIDERS
Like the artwork, there is something that is slightly disturbing about this piece, Charlie, but in a good way :-) It has a "can't look away" quality despite the apparent tension. A thought provoking composition. Thanks, Peter.

THE DECIDERS
There is an element to this piece that is decidedly pop culture in nature. It sounds like it belongs in a Hitchcock film - Vertigo or The Rear Window - suspenseful and lonely - it's actually quite an intriguing work - I enjoyed this a lot, man - thanks!

Strings!!!
(the linked version is the one I listened to)
Charlie,
You are getting some great sound out of those strings! Quite a dramatic track. I very much like the way you have kept the opening motif singing throughout this interesting music. It helps keep the whole thing so much together from top to bottom. The dissonances that populate this music bring added interest to the whole as well. You might further consider having this whole thing move periodically away from the I-VI-IV-V chord pattern. I think you’d find a wealth of new material springing from some new harmony and maybe even a melody that takes off from the original measures, too. You have such a dramatic style to your music and paint in these very broad brush strokes, but perhaps a subtle dab of this and that could temper the landscape with tiny dashes of momentary style that might bring even greater life to the whole. This strikes me as an ambitious composition that possesses enormous potential to grow in something even more thrilling than it already is. … Very nice to hear this kind of serious work here.

Bowman said 1441 days ago (August 15th, 2013)
If you're
not one already you certainly would make a fine teacher of music Paul. Being a highly creative composer just lends itself the exploring and coming up with new and interesting directions to take a piece. These are excellent suggestions - certainly changing the chord pattern would open this up.

I'm glad you enjoyed this and thank you for your characterization of this as being serious. I think THE DECIDERS is fun but also attempts something more.
Cheers,
Charlie

I like the
way you got the impression of two things going on at once with the strings .....the rhythmic in front of the background melodic chords. I get the impression of ballet portraying a Venetian masked ball, where no-one knows who each other really is, regards M

Someone meantioned Rear Windwo, and I get the reference. this has a tremendous sense of motion and forward movement, with a feeling of decayed European grandeur, a cold war. i love the dissonance and how it gets more turbulent - outstanding!
