mM7 demo [Psycho Shower Scene]

 Genre: Film Scoring

Get Flash to see this player.

Often referred to "The Hitchcock Chord", the 'mM7' [minor-major seventh] chord is used for its dissonance and suspense. Although it is also used by jazz musicians, the purpose here is to demonstrate its 'dark side'.

This is only a short segment I transcribed from the piano score.

It certainly has an edge to it. I used an Em7M/B as a passing chord in my song "Fifty Fathoms Deep". Does that count? :-) Thanks for the interesting post. Regards, Peter.

It works...
...as a passing chord, in that the subtle dissonance resolves!

I like it as a transition chord...
m, MM7, m7, then to a IV or a m6 i chord... :)

Even Crusty Ol' Bernard Herrmann...
...would have been pleased! You know, we take that infamous shower scene for granted now but at the time it was released--well, this music cue certainly helped leave the audience gasping for breath when that sequence ended. Nice job! Michael
