Hey Johnny (Big Band version)

Description
This is the full blown "coral reefer madness" version of my last offering, Hey Johnny (One Hour Challenge), a song that came to me in a dream...

Anyway, I found I had a Steel Drums software instrument and there was no stopping me. I just had to see it through.

I looked for Caribbean or World Music as a genre to no avail.

Anyway, this is kinda of how I heard it in the dream, except my do-wop girl has a beard and should never be allowed near a grass skirt :-)

I was going to get Philip18 in but I was on a roll and just kept adding tracks, till there was no room for any more.

I hope you forgive me for posting two versions so close together, but I felt compelled.

Thanks.

Peter

Hey Johnny (Big Band version)
Nice additions. The steel pans and your electric rhythm guitar fit in there nicely.

Kinda the Atlantic City version... :)
I'll confess to liking the original a bit better; but I see where you're going here, and you made the right choices for making it a full blown production... Very tasty solo...

Bartender!
Yes, it is the cliched, big stadium, singalong with the parrot heads version. Hopefully a large number of beers will work its magic :-) Thanks, Phil. Regards, Peter.

Hey Johnny
So I guess I'll have to put my reefer jacker and captain's hat back in the cupboard for a while yet. Oh, well, at least I can enjoy this journey to the caribbean! Good sounds, neat solo, plenty of energy. Now I have to break the news to Gaby that she won't be on the do-wop chorus after all.

Do-wop woes
Tell Gaby I'm sorry! The do-wop boy I pulled in as a replacement didn't know his dos from his dahs. And he wouldn't wear the coconut shell bikini top! I just kept thinking, I wonder what it would sound like if... until I had added enough tracks to sink a ship. Alloy was good in that regard. Low system resources. Talk soon about dinner. You could wear the reefer jacket them. I have a captain's hat to lend you :-) Thanks, Peter.

Still a lot of fun
I like the additions. Now there a bit of "Little Mermaid" in this, but maybe that's just the general flavor of the tune and standard harmony for this kind of song. You certainly have captured the Caribbean beat (if there really is such a thing!). Fun to listen to this.

More mature mermaids...
Thanks, Paul. I had a chuckle over the "Little Mermaid" reference. Now, if only some more mature mermaids found the song enticing... :-) Take care, Peter.

Good one!
I'm going for my bottle of rum now. All the tracks work great together, combining into a massive dance party in the sand! I can feel the sun and tropical breezes!

Rum is essential!
Thanks, Mike. Rum is essential! Parrots are optional. Just make sure you put your hawaiian shirt on. The circus is in town. Take care, Peter.

Hey Johnny (Big Band version)
Hey Johnny
I'm glad you fulfilled your dream ... and so quickly ... (well the music part anyway) when inspiration's there, you got to go for it.... and it sounds great! You found all the sounds to give it that island feel. The next step is to do it live with Phillip and his captain hat surrounded by the do-wops ... or a video!
Catchy chorus ... it was stuck in my had all day with the first version.
Cheers!

Man overboard
Thanks, Stan. I had a bit of time and found I just had to see if I could get anywhere near the sound that I had in my head. It ended up close enough to scratch the itch. Unfortunately Philip got washed overboard in my haste to cast off :-) Now for a video.... Take care, Peter.

Deffo :-)
Thanks, Chris. No doubt I was channelling the Buffett boy. I sing a lot of his earlier songs round the campfire and catch him every time he is down under. His big band "parrot head" shows are an event. Glad you liked my homage. Deffo is good! Take care, Peter.

It's
great to hear this big band version Peter and you produced it so quickly!
Very tropical sounding with a nice guitar rhythm and the steel drums are great. Nice solo too, very much enjoyed.

Wait, I do this all the time
Like the steel drum, but I'm less keen on the other keyboard contribution. However it is a popular sound in The Bahamas, so you hit the nail on the head there.

Disney dreaming
I think Paul's "Little Mermaid" comment is in the ballpark for this one, Graham. Having never been to the Caribbean I just based it all on memories of the Jimmy Buffett concerts I have got to when he tours down under. I appreciate you stopping by for a listen. Thanks, Peter.
