Description
Sorry for such a quick posting of my progress. Six minutes plus. Upon critiques by PeterB7858, Reinholt56, Paul F. Page, and others, I've adjusted different sounds and such. Thanks for all the suggestions. There are many dynamic adjustments to be made, and pasts to write. A lot of gaps to be filled.

Thank for listening,
Alimar

still growing.
And acquiring a wider range of phrasing and expression now, including a few surprises. Keep it coming. I don't feel able to critique but I am enjoying the way this is developing.

Firsties!
Pizz strings at the beginning are jarringly loud and kinda edgy against the gentle backdrop... plus, it foreshadows the dynamic change when the section comes in too much... I'd try cutting them at least in half... they need to just suggest. The anticipatory swell at 4:20 is really cool, was hoping it was going to bet big there, you tease. :) No other nits at this point, I'll hold off till you "fill some gaps"... Lovely phrasing and voices...

Me and sibilance!
Thanks for stopping in and being 'secondies'…

Point taken on those pizzicato strings at the beginning. Yeah, they do occlude the flutes. I've tried to stay away from bombastic swells in this piece. I had to add French horns, though. The levels are all over the place right now. The segue to the ending escapes me at this point. Thanks for the critique.

Some wonderful moments of quiet beauty, Al. As a movement of a larger composition, I can see how it might work as is, but as a standalone piece I am still not sure where it is taking me. Again, I am just approaching it as a pleb who is mightily impressed with anyone who can put this quality of music together, but it is not really resolving itself into a coherent story for me. It is more like a vignette, even at 6 minutes. I hope this helps. Take care, Peter.

Absolutely
I agree, several segues are needed… and recapitulation of the main theme beckons. I appreciate your input. Thanks for listening and commenting.

Adagio
I really like this - so soothing and beautiful. Tugs at my heart in several places. My imagination has me in a forest teeming with fascinating plant and animal life activities but am curious what you are seeing.

I am not
On a level to "criticize" stuff like this, but I can honestly say that you are growing on me as a composer. Had you told me this was a piece of one of the (old) masters I would have swallowed it totally. It's much more, hm, coherent?, sweet, lovely, than most of your other stuff. Probably because this is an adagio, huh? However, that means it also sounds like "anyone" could have written it, that is, maybe a little less "Al", and that's a serious thing to consider...

The bottom line is I think this sounds great as it is, I hear no gaps, great build all over - but I'm not sure I would have spotted it as an Alimar piece if I hadn't known.

Thanks for sharing and take care,
Henke

You hit the…
Nail on the head! I've spent a lot of time studying music theory, not so much music history. After writing so many arbitrary compositions, I felt it was time to start with the proper ammunition, so to say. And, as of late, have come to the realization that there is less of 'me', and more 'them' in the mix, which is great to hear you say has occurred

Thank you for always including my music in your repertoire.
