Description:
Blues stomp.

I found the words for this song in a Mother Goose book that I read to my daughter, and I used her toy guitar to record it. I think we bought it at Toys R Us.

Lyrics:
If I had as much money,
as I could spend,
I never would cry
these old chairs to mend,
old chairs to mend, old chairs to mend,
I never would cry
these old chairs to mend,
If I had as much money,
as I could tell,
I never would cry
these old clothes to sell,
old clothes to sell, old clothes to sell,
I never would cry
these old clothes to sell,

Hardware:
Toy guitar, Harmonica, bass drum, mic

Yeah, she used to go after my Epiphone Dreadnought, so we went out and got her an "Act 1" at Toys R Us for her own. I liked the sound of it for this particular song. Kind of reminded me of an old resonator.

Nice Job Kev &mdash 03/07/05 - 05:17:06 PM
Sounds more like some of the earlier blues guys. I like the
very first sound you hear, it sounds like your pulling a
chair up to the mic, getting ready to lay down a song for
the crowd. Guitar, Harp, Vocals all sound good.

How the heck &mdash 03/07/05 - 07:23:46 PM
did you get the guitar to stay in tune so long? This was
awesome! Nice and raw- the way it should be. Cool bass
drum.

Beautiful... &mdash 03/08/05 - 03:58:19 AM
All the gear people have and a cheap Toys R Us guitar
ends up sounding just right for this. Hell, they should be
paying you. Mind you, shopping at Toys R Us is as close to
paying dues as modern life allows. One of the purest
things I've heard on MJ. Big points.

Wow, thank you all for the comments!

I am glad you all liked the song. It's funny, I sometimes mess around with this little guitar and get really good ideas. I think it cost about $35 and it is half the size of a regular guitar and is very light. I am surprised too, that it stayed in tune!

good stuff &mdash 03/08/05 - 02:43:38 PM
I sure like the harmonica. A toy guitar? Really! Sounds very
down home. Mother Goose on the loose!

Amazing &mdash 04/12/05 - 02:52:20 PM
Reminds me of recording on a four track cassette deck in
the old days when my only special effect was an external
reverb unit. Used an empty Oatmeal box for a drum and a
wooden flute I could barely play just to get some kind of
other sound on there. Mostly I turned out crap but every
once in a while one would turn out like this song. Loved it
even if not on a toy guitar!

Hey those are some good ideas!

I think music can tend to be too over produced so its a good idea to sometimes just sit down and sing with a guitar or flute or a stomp on a hardwood floor to put the fun back into it.
