Description:
This is the result of myself and an excellent local duo called 'The Good' , collaberating on a track. Gareth and Heather provided guitar bass and vocals whilst I did the orchestration, percussion etc.

This is really nice &mdash 03/07/05 - 07:20:38 PM
Good harmonies, very strong vocal effort and really
appreciated. Strings sounded good, very lush backdrop.
Excellent collaboration.

Another really nice one &mdash 03/07/05 - 10:07:43 PM
This would be a really, great song even without the
orchestration. The vocals blend together beautifully and
the guitar against the rich orchestrations sounds
wonderful. You have a real talent for using the orchestra
pack. Beautifully arranged from top to bottom.

Thanks for creating another song to add to my favorites
list.

Fantastic... &mdash 03/08/05 - 04:19:32 AM
This is wonderful. Very Everything But The Girl. Delicate
and beautiful writing. On the nitpicking level, that melodic
line the bass takes is extraordinarily beautiful and it's
unusual, and I'd like to see it higher in the mix because it
gives the track a very original feel. The orchestration and
percussion are really good, but I for my taste they're a bit
too up front and take over...

Lovely, catchy tune &mdash 03/08/05 - 07:06:48 AM
Gareth and Heather provide some very endearing vocals.
My only suggestion is to lighten up the background
somewhat. The guitar is gorgeous but it sounds like some
one is banging on it on beats 2 and 4. Just bring it down a
bit, maybe a lighter touch on some of the orchestral
percussion and let this beautiful song flow.

(Keep in mind, I'd be happy to hear this with just guitar
and voices. But that's just me.) Nice piece.

Lovely, catchy tune &mdash 03/09/05 - 07:50:28 AM
I think if you heard this live it would not sound like banging. I think the level
is a little too high, making what was a rhythmic tap sound like banging.

Nice &mdash 03/08/05 - 08:41:39 AM
wow, nice voice indeed.
Very smooth, I like that arrangement. Good high notes
too.

Good going!

Excellent lush Brazilian feel &mdash 03/08/05 - 08:56:21 AM
Love the Brazilian feel to the guitar and bass, the attention
to detail in the lush orchestrations, Gareth's light and
compelling vocals (altho I agree with mandolinquent that
they are slightly low in the mix and the strings too up
front), Heather's perfectly fitting and balanced harmonies,
and the pop simplicity in the lyrics. Everything works
together in a tightly wrapped concept that is very
professional and pleasing. Excellent track.

Absolutely real &mdash 03/08/05 - 09:56:59 AM
Now here's a "real" song....verses...chorus...bridge...very nice...refreshing around these parts...good work...right up there with some of "Mars'" stuff...

sound. great catchy string melody

Awesome! &mdash 03/08/05 - 12:35:37 PM
Well written. Well produced. Intelligent sound and feel.
Diggin' the ratchety percussion elements. Even tho the
vocal delivery is quite clear it is a shame to post a song of
this quality without the lyrics included to complete the
overall presentation. Thx 4 sharing.

Swell song &mdash 03/08/05 - 06:04:10 PM
A smooth, dreamy song. Great vocals, guitars, strings,
percussion...everything! Excellent layering of elements.
Most everything nicely contoured*. Orchestral without
leaving the Pop/Easy Rock genre. Introduction of deep
bass at 3/5 thru is nice. Castanets are a nice percussive
element. Absolutely pro sounding.

* Perhaps a little less volume on the dry guitar stabs--
they get distracting. The ratchet sounds are much less
obtrusive.

Beautiful. &mdash 03/08/05 - 07:43:04 PM
I very much enjoyed this song. Great layering and depth.
Lots of talent went into this one. The guitar is nice and
bright.

My only complaint (being a guitar player) is that the guitar
slaps are much louder than the plucked parts. I don't
know if compressing the track a bit would help that... but
if that's the worse nitpick you're gonna hear than you've
done well!

This sounds pro. 9-8-8-8

This is ace &mdash 03/09/05 - 07:44:36 AM
Quite simply one of the best (if not THE best) song I've
ever heard on macjams.

I agree that the song would sound great on it's own as an
acoustic track but that's not to say it isn't great as it is
here.

Wonderful stuff.....

So nice &mdash 03/09/05 - 09:14:10 AM
Really beautiful song. The orchestrations compliment the
song, but sometimes they overwhelm the vocals. Love the
end, letting the last note of the bass fade naturally
without cutting it off. Great music.

I gotta say &mdash 03/09/05 - 10:14:34 AM
This is the best song I've heard on macjams. If I were a record exec I'd sign you. Very impressive vocal blend and orchestrations...and I hate synth string sounds. Beautiful, beautiful song.

This totally rules &mdash 03/09/05 - 11:15:56 AM
wow....you could so get signed. Beauuuutiful vocals and
harmonies, pretty faultless really. Good quality recording.
The lyrics are also the best ive heard on the site so far.
well done!!

Wonderful &mdash 03/10/05 - 01:45:42 AM
I don't really have anything to add that hasn't already been
said. It's a magnificent piece of music in so many ways. I
agree with many of the tweak suggections. They're really
fine points but on something as good as this it's worth
scrutinizing the final polish for perfection. A new favorite
for me.

Thanks &mdash 03/10/05 - 07:33:42 AM
Thank you all for your positive comments. The song was
written by Gareth, so kudos and thanks to him for a
beautiful composition. I agree with some of your
comments about the orchestration being a little high in
the mix...sometimes it takes another ear to point
something out to you. Thanks once again for all your kind
words! Lee.

Great Harmonies &mdash 03/10/05 - 08:43:08 AM
The hook is the best part of this song and you sing it to
perfection. I agree with others, vocals up in mix and other
stuff down.

[ Reply to This ]
it's all been said already... &mdash 03/10/05 - 09:57:13 AM
...but I'll add my $0.02. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to
this tune; it's very well put-together and expertly
performed. I particularly liked the Brazilian-feel chord
progressions and the imaginative orchestration.

Very pop, sweet and romantic song. I like the harmonies.
Wonderful!

Radio Ready &mdash 03/10/05 - 07:03:19 PM
Lush guitar sound, well done. The strings over whelmed a
little bit, maybe a little less volume next to the male solo
vox (could just be my setup). I really liked your
purcusion, unexpectly differnt and awsome. This tune is
radio ready.

Radio Ready &mdash 03/11/05 - 01:18:11 PM
I agree. Catchy pop tune without sounding like it's trying
to be a catchy pop tune, if that makes sense.

Wonderful flavor with the duet and then introduction of
strings... works very well. Good on ya!

perfect &mdash 03/12/05 - 10:32:52 PM
This is one beautiful tune...very well done...not
cheesy at all and the melody is memorable. Wow. My
only criticism would be about the art... it looks
crappy and all messed up (at least on my machine).
Put a photo in, at least (the one you had on your
breakup song...of the dove..that was nice).

Tasteful... &mdash 05/28/05 - 01:41:10 AM
It reminds me somewhat of "More Than Words," by Extreme.

Finesse, subtlety and understatement make this tune a quiet gem.

Excellent work all around.

Stop The Car! &mdash 06/04/06 - 12:08:31 PM
If I was driving down the highway and this beautiful piece of music
came on the radio, I'd pull over and kill the engine just to hear it
better. Of course, the dj would never identify it and I'd never find out
who did it, or where to find it. It would haunt me until my dying days...
I'd be ranting about it to the nurses at the retirement home, and they'd
have to sedate me seven dozen times a day.

Seriously... this is a gem. Why is there so much (choose your favourite
expletive) on the radio and work like this goes without notice? (Then
again, as the phrase goes... day ain't over yet, is it?)

Beautiful.

Lead singer, harmonies--all are great. Loved the strings--strong and
lush. Very tight song. Good job.
