Description
A companion piece to an earlier guitar post, Morning Watch.

I have featured my 1982 Maton CW80 acoustic in the last couple of songs I have posted and my self-made 000 was getting jealous, so she gets a chance to strut her stuff this time.

Same set up as my last few songs except that my 000 has an L R Baggs Lyric mic pickup that is blended with the input from an SM58.

The 000 is a very "live" guitar so the body squeaks, etc. add to the character.

See what you think.

Regards,

Peter :-)

Evening tone
Beautiful tune, pleasantly relaxing - I think I'll pour of glass of red and listen again. Beautiful tone - very full sound. Sweet!

A simple setup
Thanks, Philip. I was up early the other morning and grabbed the 000 and this eventuated. I'm glad my simple Logic setup worked with it, too. Talk soon, Peter.

Bond. James Bond...
Didn't Woody Guthrie have "this machine kills fascists" on his guitar? It must have been a 000, too :-) 00 is just a license to kill. 000 is a license to kill whole audiences... Thanks for your listen and comments. I larfed. Take care, Peter.

VERY nice, Peter. Very lyrical, in a way befitting the picture and perhaps anticipating a happy reunion with friends over a Glenmorangie, or, given the sea motif, an Islay.

I love hearing the squeaks on a guitar ... it does make it more alive ... lovely chords and confident picking ... I think I can hear you breath ...
Beautiful melody Peter and that guitar has a nice full sound.

Unintended :-)
Thanks, Vic. I'm glad this came across OK. It is not a difficult piece to play but hopefully the melody and atmosphere take centre stage over any (unintended) virtuosity :-) Take care, Peter.

Harry's wisdom...
Thanks, Dick. There are a number of very fine finger style guitarists at MJ who would take me to the cleaners but I appreciate your very kind words. A man's gotta know his limitations :-) Take care, Peter.

Siesta sigh
Thanks, Graham. 8 o'clock munchies! LOL. I think I might try for "Afternoon Siesta" next. Especially if a pretty señorita happened to be aboard... I built the guitar from scratch (blocks of wood) at a luthier school here in Melbourne. It was a fantastic experience. I'm glad it comes across well. Take care, Peter.

Evening listen
Lovely piece on a great sounding guitar.

I would try to edit away the low frequency noises. They are natural, but they are also a proximity effect, so to a normal listener a few feet away from you they would not be audible.

Creaks and groans :-)
Thanks, Vic. I appreciate your comments and suggestions. I guess I am use to having my head only about 18 inches above the sound hole so I hear all the creaks and groans and, to me, they are just part of the performance. I will have a play with the low frequencies and see what effect it has. Kind regards, Peter.

The squeeks...
...are what make this such an engaging and pleasant improvisation. You play beautifully, Peter, and the simplicity of this performance fairly shouts with its own eloquence and style. Very very nicely done. Such a pleasant experience to hear this.

Striking a chord :-)
Thank you, Paul. I'm glad that this piece seems to be striking a chord with people. It is not overburdened with virtuoso technique but, hopefully, has a story to tell with its simple, melodic approach. Take care, Peter.

This is my third fingerstyle guitar listen in a row this afternoon, and I have to say, from an enjoyment perspective they are all exceptional. You are in very good company with Bill Furner and Johannes!
Very nicely played.

Laminated Monet...
It is great that there are a few finger style guitar pieces being posted, Neil. The acoustic guitar is such a wonderful instrument of the people, and in the right hands (Joannes and Bill for example) it is capable of producing high art. This is more your $20 Monet poster by comparison... pretty but you know it is not the real deal :-) Regards, Peter.

While away the time
Thanks, Franc. I'm glad it came across OK. I noodled the opening motif and then just built around it. I am also happy with the recorded sound I can now seem to get out of my 000. It is a wonderful instrument to just while away the time with. Take care, Peter.

Sabionari Guitar
Thanks, Michael. I'm really just a hack from Melbourne :-) Funnily enough Stradivarius did make guitars, too. The Sabionari Guitar (1679) is one of the five surviving guitars made by Antonio Stradivari and at the present time it is the only Stradivari guitar playable in the world. Soothing is a nice compliment. Take care, Peter.

I'm amazed
how skilled you are on the guitar, how clean it sounds. When I fumble around my fingers have a hard time finding one string and it's always sloppy. I hide the extra noise with other instrumentation or effects. Beautiful piece, thoroughly enjoyed.

A disservice
Kind words, John. You do yourself a disservice. I think you are a fantastic guitar player. I'm glad you liked this. With pieces like this, I play it every time I walk past my guitar until it gets some precision but still flows. Then I just press record :-) Take care, Peter.

In the beginning of this I was expecting to hear some James Taylor type vocals come in. But this piece definitely works without the vocals. That is some fine guitar playing with some really nice chord changes that I enjoyed. You have a very nice style of playing.

I love the guitar
and the piece! The guitar has that mid range punch that I like so much in my 1968 Guild. Love the composition and the playing style too. Is it mixed flat pick and finger style? I don't know what the Maton's sound like, but now I have to listen to the other piece to find out. Nice!

Appreciative
Thanks, Stephen. The 000 does have some midrange clout. It is all just played finger style. I appreciate your kind words. The link above to Morning Watch is also using the 000 but recorded a bit earlier in the year in GB. I think I will re-record it with this setup in Logic Pro. The Maton (a dreadnaught) was used on my last couple of posted songs, "Under Sail" (a finger style instrumental) and "Beautiful Day" (solo singer/songwriter). Take care, Peter.
