Description
Folk rock tune to bring in the new year. I was hoping to have this completed to post on the first day of the year. Made it!

Many thanks Vic Holman, MacJams' dean of electric guitar, for adding his slide guitar. We've done many songs together over the years (Goodwillys and duo collabs) and I continue to be impressed with his talent and generosity.

Vocals, guitar, harmonica, bass, organ, drums: Jack
Slide guitar: Vic

Lyrics
Chords: G - C - Bm - Am

Come to me Sweet Lorraine
I'm calling to you once again
The time is long past to remain, so
Come to me Sweet Lorraine

Oh, you know I didn't want to go
I have no bags to unpack
The wise men counseled me to just lay low
Now there's no turning back

Come to me Sweet Lorraine
Gather all that you've been given
To the coastland o're the sea
Come to me Sweet Lorraine

The plan has change, we're much older now
It really never had a chance
I thought you knew it was just a dream
I wasn't sure myself

Come to me Sweet Lorraine
Let me hold you in the night
I'll light the candle once again
Come to me Sweet Lorraine

I know that I may have let you down
Being gone all these days
And if I could come back, you know I would
But Lorraine, you know my ways

[Harmonica break]

Was it our bad luck to take this road?
We didn't plan it well
Yet the wrong turns have turned out all right
Heaven instead of hell

Come to me Sweet Lorraine
Don't delay anymore
Take a boat or fly a plane, just
Come to me my Sweet Lorraine.

Nice haunting Dylanesque sound to this - (Nashville skyline era). Nice harmonies in the vocals and the slide guitar is a great addition.

Nashville Skyline...
Thanks, Michael. I knew this had a Dylan vibe in it, but I hadn't connected the dots. That's the era. Nice of you to drop and and add your valued comments. Re: the slide addition, I had this in demo form for a while waiting on Vic's part, an indispensable ingredient to the feel of this song.

Like that Wallin Jennings feel at the start
with the way the guitar has that country guitar arpeggios in a kind of chorus sound.

Enjoy the lyrics and how it fits so will with the much. Nice use of the snare drums as the song continues. Like the harmonica addition as well,

Thanks for sharing Jack and HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Beautifully warm performance. The vocal intonation has a Dylan quality to it that I like. The harmonica and Vic's slide guitar are the icing on the cake. Much enjoyed, Jack!

There are a few that like the Dylan vocal intonation. ;-) Glad you're one of them, and thanks for the compliment. My hope was that the harp and slide would work well in the song, giving it a plaintive kind of feel to go with the lyrics. So if they're icing on the cake, then we succeeded. Thanks...

Slow poetic verses, slide guitar, make this a real treat. (and an excellent addition to the hit parade of tunes featuring Vic on guitar)

Dylan vibe...
He's a big influence, as for many. I have more than a few songs that others have said remind them of Dylan, though I don't try to mimic. But even if one thinks I am,, that's OK. Then maybe it's just my form of flattery of his music genius and impact. Thanks for your gracious comments...

Great tune. Particularly like the vocal harmonies, right on the money.

Puts me slightly in mind of Dire Straits.

Professionally produced too. Good job.

Kind of was expecting a cover of Patty Griffin's "Sweet Lorraine". But happy to find this. Jack and Vic you guys nailed it. Lazy and pensive in it's longing. Tasty lead.

That's part of the "Sweet Lorraine" that I know from Bob Crumb's albums. I like this Dylanesque version. I'm sure the harmonies were very satisfying to record.

Sweet Lorraine
Great late 60's vibe to this and real musicianship on show. I think the song asks questions of the listener and it's up to you to provide your own answers - perhaps as it should be? And I'm, as always, very jealous of anyone who can play slide worth a damn. Really enjoyed this.
