Description
A collab I did with Fran - I think it was our first.

Fran left the following comment on my original version: "just the title
is almost good enough....but then ya get the song TOO?? this is great
stuff...i agree with mcboy...noble...but great kick ass playing....the bass
is rocking...i could hear a guitar solo in there....", so I asked (very politely, and not really expecting a response) if he'd like to do an 8 bar solo and he sent me 5 guitar tracks of the whole song.

Needless to say, I was pretty pleased with myself that someone so obviously talented could be bothered with my song.

Quite a challenge to mix him in really, and the version I posted was less than brilliant. I've spent much of today re-working the mix. I hope he would have liked it.

Fran Dagostino plays guitar
John Libby plays keyboards
Mike Watkins plays drums
I'm playing bass and guitars

Dedicated to Fran the Man!

Lyrics
Doing The Eggshell Walk
© 11/2005 Neil Porter

We lie awake at daybreak
And you ask me how the world gets on outside
Another shattered marketplace
Another scattered day of broken lives

Chorus
I’m scared to turn the news on
In the morning
Don’t know what might happen
In my sleep
They’ve got you and me
Doing the Eggshell Walk
Doesn’t seem like
Freedom much to me

Streets of Paris burning
Someone else’s city, could be yours
A signal of frustration
With the growing gap dividing rich and poor

Chorus
I’m scared to turn the news on
In the morning
Don’t know what might happen
In my sleep
They’ve got you and me
Doing the Eggshell Walk
Doesn’t seem like
Freedom much to me

They send ‘em home in body bags
2000 already, there’ll be more
We don’t count the other side
30,000 people, that’s the score

Chorus
Getting scared to wake up
In the morning
Anything could happen
In your sleep
They’ve got you and me
Doing the Eggshell Walk
Doesn’t seem like
Freedom much to me

Refrain
You put one foot forward
And you look around
You shade your eyes
And you test the ground
You jump at shadows
And you shy at sounds
If you wonder why you’re dancing
You’re doing the Eggshell Walk

Chorus
Starting to get angry
In the morning
Starting to have nightmares
In my sleep
They’ve got you and me
Doing the Eggshell Walk
Seems like an unholy mess to me

Great song Neil, and a great dedication to a talented guitarist - sounds like he gave you a pretty cool solo with which to remember him by. RIP Fran

Great Collaboration
Good Tribute song... Clean work by Fran of course, John really shines and Solid as ever for Mike's Dpercussion. Really like the last minute or so where the wall of sound fades into the drum and guitar out.

Eggshell Walk
This is brilliant, and a fine tribute to Fran, he was a beast! Everyone plays well on this one, a fine collab. John and Mike sound great as always...you and Fran really worked well together. For me, I could have stood a bit more Fran volume on the solo, but this is exceptional Neil.

Absolutely right Chris
This mix isn't what I'd thought it was. Fran needs way more dB - new mix in a few weeks.

Neil, have I ever told you how much I lobe your voice? Its has a wonderful deep, raspy quality that i love, and this track really brings it to the forefront. Wonderful chorus, the usual fab mix, downloaded with thanks.

EGGSHELL WALK
It is a pity that the key message of the song still seems to be as relevant as ever, Neil. Wonderful song. Everything works well in the mix. Mike does a great job on drums, John's keys add class and Fran's guitar work really hits the target (but could be louder?). As always, your bass is solid and rhythmic and your distinctive vocals draw worthy attention to the lyrics. A fine MJ collab. Thanks, Peter.
