Lyrics
What's It All About, Alfred?

What's it all about, Alfred?
Is there any doubt, Alfred?
What is this thing called love?
Who's in the sky?
Some hairy guy?
A noodle up above?

There's no need to dream about it
There's no need to scream about it
There's no need to scheme about it
Year after year

Who are we to say?

Now listen here
It's very clear
Nobody has a clue
Those crazy guys
They may crack wise
Keep doing what you do

Some may choose to joke about it
Some would just go broke without it
Others will blow smoke and shout
But life must go on

Some will try to solve the riddle
Some get caught right in the middle
Some will play upon the fiddle
Till it's all gone

Who are we to say?

Wow!
Incredible guitar work, that playing is so expressive it's another one that brings Dave Gilmour to mind. There's more in this that reminds me of Pink Floyd, too, somehow the way it's layered and the way the melody develops just screams of their influence. Even the punch-line would fit on one of their albums...

Thanks for that download. Another one that started downloading before the track was finished playing.

I'll take that
It started as a take on John Lennon's "Love", but other stuff got in the way. I'm glad you stayed for the punchline. It made me laugh, too. (It's a nod to an old friend who was critiquing "Arkham Asylum".) Thanks for listening, Mr A.

Hahah
This is too funny, man. Well done.

As for the musical portion: excellent. I can hear the John Lennon influence for sure.

You stayed!
I left the last bit just that bit too long, because it undercuts what you just heard. So well done on hanging in there. Several seconds of your life well - spent. I'm chuffed you hear the Lennon influence, as that's what started it all.

..the imagery is
a bit frightening...Batman crooning to a very stoic Alfred ....who would just respond "Indeed , Master Wayne"...but it's really good ....

musically sound and tight as a drum ..and I love the end..."Indeed ,Master Wayne" paraphrased....

But we all knew that. The noodle is of course The Flying Spaghetti Monster, and the other references should be fairly obvious except for the ones I made up. Thanks for listening Mr J. Exciting drum stuff coming next week. Same bat - channel.

This was definitely in the mush!
Enjoyed how the guitar worked on this and it's a very engaging piece from you Graham. I don't know why, I think it's your voice, there's a hint of the Beatles about you (perhaps you remind me of Lennon/McCartney, but combined into one with your voice). Another solid shot from you and I think Alfred should always be drawn as you depicted him here. Thanks again, Michael

I'll get a job drawing Alfred
This tune has been brewing a long time, so I'm glad I got it out of the way at last. My grans (both of them) used to bring me Beatles records from Stafford market in the 60's. Sometimes they'd slip up and bring Gerry and his Pacemaker or some other group, but the Liverpool influence was there from childbirth, practically. Cheers, Michael. I'm now off to enjoy your latest.

What's It All About, Alfred?
Love the sparse beginning. Gorgeous harmonies with, yes, I'll say it too, vocals with a real noticeable timbre of the Beatles. Really well done. I wish the drums had just a hair of reverb on them, they are just a tad too dry for my ears, but that's just me. Funny ending. Great job.

Cheers, Skunkwrx. As I was finishing this, Mr David McNair volunteered his drumming services (see forum post)and I now have a splendid, lively version of an older song, which I will post soon. So watch this space. Same Bat - time, same Bat channel.

Excellent, really different and very well put together Graham. It is Beatles-esque, for sure, but not overly so. Great song.

Unlikely
But remember, Christian Bale is Welsh. Also, "Kisser' doesn't sound as uncouth as "mush". "Gob" isn't bad, but it's so common. So, "mush" it is. I agonised for literally no time over this. Cheers for listening, Davy.

Quality - no surprise
Graham, I love the idea behind this piece and the actual song more than lives up to the expectation.

Really well put together. Subtle yet effective arrangement. Slide works perfectly to give it a hint of Harrison.

As Vic said, more Badfinger than Beatles but that's no bad thing(er) - I'll get me 'at

Cheers

Dick

Keep your hat
I love Badfinger, so any comparison is most welcome. (Also I thrive on bad puns.) I see on Wikipedia that the "Badfinger" album (mid - 70's) is considered their best by some. I find that hard to believe, as there's only a couple of Pete Ham songs on it, but I'll give it a listen and see. Meanwhile, his ghost possesses me at times and I have to sing about Batman and Milkman. (Maybe not.) Nice to see, you, at least metaphorically.

I really dig it!!
When I listen to music, I find myself desperately trying to find something different. A lot of it (especially what you hear on the radio) is sounding the same to me. It's like there is a voice factory and there is 3 or 4 guys singing every song nowadays. I love this because it is just so different. The vocals are unique, the sound of the song is unique and even the point of the lyrics are unique. Sorry for the extended rant, just love different sounding music. Trying to explain that to my wife, she tells me it's age LOL.

That's what MJ is for
You'll hear some seriously barmy stuff here, often recorded and mixed to a professional level. That's because we are unconstrained by what will sell. I agree about modern pop. They all use the same chords (some sort of "Let It Be" variant - see YouTube for proof.) But kids buy it. And don't get me started on loudness. If you say, "Get off my lawn" ever, your wife is right. Where was I? Oh, yes. Thank you very much for listening, Mikey.

Yep...
...some of that Beatles quality about this, but it is also absolutely unique. The instrumental intro was really stellar, imo; not sure I "get" the lyrics, but maybe I'm not supposed to...kind of like life, I suppose. Who knows what it means? Your song suggests some degree of resolution to the not knowing. Interesting take on things...definitely a unique song well worth the listen and the thought it provokes.

Read some comics
That will help with this one. I spent my youth doing that, and thus got most of my general knowledge from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. (I wrote an essay on this topic for an "A" level, believe it or not.) I'm glad you like this, Paul, as the (literal) punchline kind of goes against your very spiritual MJ offerings. I have universal appeal. Yay!

The first set of vocals are the iMac pinhole mike, and Alfred's response is a proper (Audio Technica) one. you can hear the difference, but as it fits the song I left it. Thanks for your encouragement.
