Description
This is but a test run of the minimal set-up I currently have which is B5 size notebook,a mini-midi keyboard that I bought for £20 from a book shop and a bunch of plugins. The main one is '1984' - that Van Halen Jump type sound.Couldn't help putting in a bit of walking on sunshine by rockers revenge though.I created the art in a pixel designer called tile studio.

The next mission is get the best vocal sound I can out of a cheap web mic.

well - me! the only disadvantage of the mini keys keyboard is that it isn't touch sensitive and the keys are too small.I got round this by quantising everything and there is a 'random velocity' function in the software i'm using - so you select all the notes and hit 'random velocity' - its like the marvel judge dredd of music editing

Funky!
After a few 'Forbiddens' and annoyingly being told I need Flash Player to play the file, I finally got to listen. Glad I persevered too, nice funky sound. Might be a minimal set up, but there's a nice full sound. Like it.

Wow
I dont know of anyone else who could make so much happy dancing out of so little resources! Usually no fan of synth music but this stuff is GREAT, or ... in other words ... I love it!

Also great just to see you around!!! I took a glance at your MJ posting rate for later years. It is not unlike mine. We could form a group ' Seldom Seen Macjammers'. When your name flashes in the mail it is a so called must hear.

Peace and love bro

Dude, you could make stellar music out of an ashtray! You're still one of my favorite musicians in the world. This sounds as good as anything I've heard in awhile, production is great. BAD ASS! Let's work together soon.

thats lucky as one thing i do have is an ashtray - I'll sample it when I get this mic workin.yeah i'd like to contribute more, just on a broadband dongle - its ok if I put about 30 smackers on it else it eats all the data with an upload/download.also makes it a bit of a one shot deal.I'll try though, chris!

i used to have a korg in the 80's.don't know what kind but it was a korg.I'm afraid i'm one of those that plays the piano and has experts coming up and discussing the piano i'm playing but I don't know anything about who made em i just play em.although i can recognise a rhodes and a hammond

As limited as this Korg I have is, you could still make it sound good.

Ooh, waitaminit! Let me log on!
... so I can “fave” this!   Let’s hear it for “80’s music,” when none of us had any decent electronics to work with at the time (but, none of us knew that at the time ...).   But we did stuff like this, and, looky, here it is again!

My toes will probably be tapping for the entire rest of the evening.   :-D

(If I say that I love the graphic, does this imply that I actually remember disco?)

in the 90's frank zappa did a song with vocals going 'oh no - its the eighties again' lol.it still amazes me how many different versions of the TV show AIRWOLF -(o\/o)- there are.Was listening to one version while climbing a hill today.just wasnt the right one though.I hope its not offensive to say thank you disco-boy mike!

answer to some people who left nice comments for me, and yet here I am groovin' on your page instead! Great elec piano runs (and I'm REALLY digging that steel-drum sounding thing at the mid-3 minute mark), but the standout section for me is that bend back down at 2:50. Still got goosebumps from that! Sort of a Super Mario ending, too. Excellent

thank you for the detail
funnily enough i've been playing the original 'final fantasy' on a nes emulator and I've been working on a game meself for about the last 6 years.I worked on it for so long infact that the code i wrote it in - as3/flash is now pretty much on the burner in favour of html5.i'm still determined to finish it though - if not only to write some chunky 8-bit melodies for it.the good news is it may still be able to run on mobiles just using old technology,so i'm already retro without even trying.got it running on an iphone, then spent the last 3 years trying to minimalise the memory usage so the graphics and sprites ran around smooth.just as i got limitless number of characters jumping around a huge map - the world decided flash is crap.that doesnt stop me though haha.

i think the change you refer to is a key change - i first heard it in the airwolf ( thats twice i've mentioned airwolf in these comments lol) - where you take everything from the minor up a third to a major e.g Em to G - then at a point you build up to - wack it back down to the Em.Alot of thrash bands slayer type used that alot - sort of emphasises the harder key over the jolly key if you know what I mean so youve got the up then the back to riff

Love how you jam your ass off at like the 1:15 mark or so
Great groove and vibe. I would definitely do more work on this, it has huge potiential.

Perhaps comes off a tad repetitive in other places but you are putting vocals in here, correct? Even with vocals, i would find a way to put a little more variation in there, too much of the same rhythm and melody. Changing it up would make the beat really pop when you came back to it

i agree - when i listen back to it,I hear a sort of herbie hancock construction that ends just as it should get started, but if you know what I mean I don't have those balls to carry on just yet.I do repeat things initially until i can hear where it may or may not go.In this case I was lazy and just took it up a third without changing much.its those outside influences sometimes that shut the gate on you - you know what I mean, the having to do something else that society generally says you must do instead of composing.I take my hat off to you though for giving some good constructive mj style crit - which the foundations of mj were originally built on - and because of your advice have a reason to try and develop it into something further (:

I really like it when you cut loose and that phasey jam rocks the sound stage. 80's funk personified. Sounds great. That ending is cool. Thanks, Rich. Regards, Peter.

The sound here is very upfront and full. So, I don't think the minimal setup is limiting you, at least not from what I hear. I love your leads on this number. Good job.

Bubbly!
Retro stuff with a jazz twist. Best use of the 'drum roll' button I've ever heard. Which reminds me, why did the cymbals in those old drum machines always sound so much cooler than the snare?
Much enjoyed!

Stero ears...
What a cool track. The bounce around in my headphones is terrific and really makes me sit up and listen. This sounds like an expertly planned and played jam session: great percussion/bass backing, some hot guitar licks and lead lines, and, now and again, very complex rhythm poking out of the background. Ah, I love the change in tonality at 2:05. Just what the track needed to keep it interesting. Good timing...and a great rhythm track.
