Description
Recall that I am not a baker of sticky buns. If you encounter the world after this experience and see things differently, without apathy and myopathy, the bread will be unleavened.

Remarkable. Your ability to integrate so many elements is extraordinary. Fine musicianship underpins it. Keep 'em coming, Daug!

crazy in a good intense way. Takes a bit to wrap my brain around but definitely a lot to enjoy. I'm digging the guitar... is that a rotoverb?

Texas John in the house
Hey partner thanks for dropping in. No rotoverb in fact, more spin than that! There's a bias trem, a univibe, a Marshall 50 watt and a Leslie in the chain. Seemed like the right voice for this concept. See ya next time.

I've got
A univibe that I use a lot. Not real happy with the sound, a Strymon Lex would sound nice on my rig as soon as funds come available.

If yer gonna lay out some funds, allow me to recommend the RM Voodoo Vibe. Been in my rig a long time. Lots of sounds in it that are usable.

Thanks for stopping in the house. I doubt you had the kinda vision issues the 4 D glasses can correct. But, the way one sees the world can change. Especially when one discovers the connections between the plank frames ;)

Several Listens
Every now and then, when I'm alighting from a sticky bun binge, I know it's time to visit the Daughouse. It's like briskly slapping myself across the face. I feel "alerted." It also pops into my head that I should not have declined an invitation to see "Zappa Plays Zappa" this week. Much appreciate your tune!
Darn! I was gonna keep the glasses!

Hello Harald
As usual you grasp the thing as a whole. I appreciate the big ears when they come by and opine. Your comment is right on. There is a voice that says, "Is that a mirror?" Indeed a direct nod to JH. How refreshing when one of the bits is noticed!

Welcome my friend. I guess yer not a regular? No kidding? Like a Porcupine Tree? Listening will be required on my part to respond there, lol. I hear about Zappa every post. See above. Maybe we do use a couple similar notes... could be the attitude? I will take your comment as high praise and hope my head does not get phat. My hat won't fit right ;)

most excellent. this kinda talent on display used to make me feel really jealous. not anymore; i'm just really happy it exists. love the "sunshine" bit you've knicked at the end. thanks for helping us all to be free. btw, i don't hear any porcupine tree in this but they are worth a listen. cheers, daug.

My mysterious friend Carbon
Thanks for stopping by and supporting this work. Of course I would like all of us to be Free. Alas, too many choose not to be... Indeed that is the famous "Sunshine" riff. I am told a version exists on a Japanese import from 1962 featuring Roy Buchanan playing the thing, four years before EC wrote the riff. Bet ya never heard it slowed down like that... by the way that is hard to do. 145 to 80BPM I think it was.
The Porcupine Tree is new to me. I listened to a bit and thought it was very commercial. I thought I heard the Nazi hand but as things go I check that vibe in every new thing I find. Did not sound like me in my opinion. Of course I am guilty of ripping off Frank Zappa like crazy... you just can't find any actual lifts. Curious? Thanks for stopping by and adding to the comments. Put the glasses in the bin!

lots of creativity here. Interesting concept piece. Like the way you tied it all together. ELP meets Thomas Dolby meets Zappa meets frappe in the cuisinart, with a little Be Bop Deluxe for good measure.

I have enough trouble seeing in 2-D... 4 D obviously requires an exponential leap of faith, but you are just the man to put everything in the pot and add salt to taste, Daug. No chance of this leaving me unleavened :-) Take care, Peter.

Hello Peter
Welcome to the Daug House my friend. As described above, all ya need do is dawn the 4 D specks provided in the first few bars.
Soon you will be able to see the connections between the plank frames as reality is created at the speed of light squared and all yer questions will be answered by self-awareness. The Fascists will not make you this offer. Instead you get sticky buns.

Couched in that rhetorical flourish is support and encouragement. I think.
I normally use a big keyboard, but was forced to use a smaller one this time. My regular board broke down at Xmas. Apparently there is wisdom in less choices?

Versatiles
Fear no music!

That's what I told myself when I was slipping the headphones on to get a closer listen (after first letting it blast out of the speakers a couple of times).

And I seemed to have survived the experience! Perhaps it's a good thing to have reached an age where changing your world view again is not a necessary option for survival? Because now I'm just basking in the sunshine of 4-D love.

Actually, the headphones experience greatly heightened my awareness - and therefore appreciation - of the sonic nuances that went into this production. You come up with these performances that masterfully render controlled chaos. That's a pretty amazing thing to pull off. I mean, a lot of folks are pretty good at producing pandemonium, but wrangling it into a cognitive expression takes a special skill.

Astonishing sound
Very dense stuff. Lately, you seem to have a near 3 dimensional sound to your songs (could be mix magic, could be a surfeit of upper range-y timbres, could be my aging ears). The undercurrent in this one was really tugging at me at about the 4 minute mark; the art is perfect for that moment. Keep going, Daug!

Love,

MoM

Hello MoM
Thanks for standing by me, I appreciate your votes of confidence. Please, what we are about is not to be allowed to be made small by our friends illusions. Popularity, the number one is meaningless. Let them to their sticky buns, Sock Monkeys and sloth. It is what they desire.

By way of explanation: that rhythm at four minutes is a wobble. A swoon follows, if you will allow. The harmony swims, going up (especially in front of the stereo field) and down, swirling, at the same time. After a brief moment of tension, caused by relying on the active tones of the scale in a swell, order is restored by utilizing the Sunshine riff. That riff leads us out of chaos and into the clearing skies of self-realization where the choir reminds us some people never will be Free. A modal technique based in the parent tonality is used. Everything is first take. To save my time for the next thing. The tonality is C. Happy jamming!
