Description
There are a lot of people on macjams that I would like to collab with and those people come and go, so once they've gone there goes the chance. I'm always wondering if the songs I come up with are good enough to ask someone to collaborate with, most of the time I shy away and finish posting them on line. The songs are mostly experimental to me. Long and in between some songs may click and render decent results. This is the next experiment in line.

I've been wanting to collab with Sigmund for quite sometime, he's an excellent guitar player, one of my favorite here on macjams. I thought the best approach was to send drums, rhythm guitars and vocal tracks to rok41 and see if he could spice it up a bit and that would entice Sig into laying down tracks. Chris said he would and returned with an extraordinary bass track which he recorded using his 74 Jazz through a tube driver.

Sure enough I sent the tracks with Chris's bass and Sig did me the favor of returning two fantastic guitar leads, one after the second chorus and the other on the finale. It's neat to hear both Chris and Sig playing off each other during the break and at the ending, even more cool to find me there amongst them.

rok41 - Bass
Sigmund - Lead Guitar
FEEL - Rhythm Guitar/Vocals
Kyle (GB) - Drums

Lyrics
All those tools are hanging in my room
I've got to try and get this out of the way
All those rules so many to abuse
They're for the taking or maybe for breaking

Play on this tune will carry on
Don't know what follows
I'll call it song
No fear the rules all disappears
With no perfection
It's all but my affection

Play time for hours in a day
Take time to fill a hungry mind

Playing blues is burning on the tubes
Just as it breaks I like the tone it makes
All those joules begin to fill the room
With all the sound it carries me away

Sing on continue carry on
Don't know what follows
I'll call it song
Who's ear is theory ever real
It's not perfection
But rather my inflection

Waste time for hours in a day
Make time to fill a hungry mind

All those rules so many to abuse
They're for the taking or maybe for breaking

Sing on continue carry on
Don't know what follows
I'll call it song
Who's ear is theory ever real
It's not perfection
But rather my inflection

Waste time for hours in a day
Make time to fill a hungry mind

First!
I like the lazy feel of this - it got inside my head. Interesting sounds. Chris's bass drives it along - great tone he gets. Sig's guitar jumps in and takes the tune to another level, as is so often the case with his playing. Congrats to all and thanks for the download!

I agree, Chris did a fantatic job keeping the tempo together on the tune, I really liked the way he filled in on the break and Sig shows his versatility and delivered outstanding leads. Thanks for dropping by and listening.

John, thanks again for the invite and trusting me with with one of your songs. You're an excellent writer, composer and this shows off your talents. This is a really good "song" and my contributions are always only as good as the what I have to work with. This has a classic feel but with a touch of Blink 182 mixed in, works well. Sig played beautifully and i know he wanted to play his best because of your excellent guitar playing abilities. This was a fun one, thanks again for having me!

Funny you would mention Blink 182, the last band I played in played classic rock, alternative and originals, especially this era music. My Own Worst Enemy was one of the songs we did by Lit who Blink 182 covered. I'm sure Blink 182 would be tickled to death to have you and Sig playing in their band. Back to this post, you really took this to the next level on the break and really wow'd me with your talent. I really appreciate you helping me out on this one.

Hi John! This is a STUPENDOUS collab!! It has that sound as though you're all in the same room, watching and listening to each other. This is a collab team that should do a LOT MORE together! Love this song - you're sounding really great (as usual), each band member gave their all. FABULOUS!!!

Definitely the Rok/Sig jam going on. Those guys can rock and for the record, I seriously considered removing the vocals and asking if you would write some lyrics and do them for me.

Hi John - thanks so much for asking me to contribute to this project. I remember my early days as a macjammer, back when you were "Texas Feel", thinking about how cool your guitar sounded back then, so playing with you is an honor! And you gave me a wonderful canvas with which to work - this song was really fun to solo to. The chorus on this song is so catchy - great job on the production too. And Chris, it's like you KNEW right where to put the coolest bass lines, and the result is really awesome, I think. This was a fun one, guys - we should probably consider doing another! Thank again John - really enjoyed!

Great changes and those rhythm guitar tones are wonderful. Cool lyrics! I certainly identify with them. Sig really took advantage of those beautiful changes. So much melody in his solos. Chris is always outstanding. I really like how adventurous he got with his fills. The mix is pro sounding indeed. What a band this would be to see live!

Definitely, Chris amazed me on the break with that run near the end and Sig really showed his versatility on this one in my opinion. Maybe I might be a bit partial. I'm glad you could relate, I really didn't know what to write about and on many occasions the subject reverts back to how music influences me.

The Tarnation of Creation
Writing about the process of writing is often an illuminating task for a writer. Writing music about writing music is a bit more perplexing. This is an interesting exploration of that latter process and one that takes an unexpected turn at the instrumental break.

Can anyone truly define the creative process, that can alternate between frustration and elation? Probably not... it's elusive and ever-changing. But you've made an honest journal entry about it with this song, John... and it plays that way.

Sig's guitar work and Chris' bass give it a delightful sparkle, sort of like a flash of inspiration, making this production somewhat of a musical mirror to the lyric.

A very nice effort all the way around. ;)

I should have had you explain it for me... I've seen lots of members including yourself post observations and instructions on music. I took some music theory in college but for some reason the math didn't work for me... I was a little better at music listening and ear training. Didn't really know what to write about, this is one of the ways music happens to me. Kind of a hit and miss and maybe the influence will get there... and for Chris and Sig... I think they understand much better and were able to put some amazing music together to compliment my madness. I appreciate your observation and it means a lot to have you hear.

Theoretically, yes.
If this is an experiment, then it deserves that Gene Wilder scream, "IT"S ALIVE!" This is such a good song, John. I love your vocals and guitar, and of course, Chris and Sigmund, were great on this too. Kyle provided the perfect beat as well. I enjoyed this a lot, and will download for more listening. The way you...
break into the main body of this is really excellent. I was afraid that the swirling organ sounds would dominate the whole piece, but it was all a great set-up, satisfyingly so. It is impressive how well you've mixed all these elements of orchestration and still have kept your vocals VERY clear and up front (as they should be). And...I like the song, too. Quite a mellow number that harkens back to a certain '70's sound, always plus in my listening lexicon. I enjoyed this so much. (Ah...the guitar solo around 3:22 is about as good as it gets! Wow. Sigs a pro. That's for sure. But YOU have taken ALL the elements and woven them seamlessly together.)

Thanks so much for the visit. The swirling organ was actually a track created with the guitar and reversed after I played along with the intro that was bounced to another track in reverse and then eventually deleted. Something like that. The volume to the vocals were down a bit at the beginning, gradually increased in three stages to match the build of the song and not to be too up front. True to what you say, 70's is usually the category I find myself influenced. Sig and Chris did a fantastic job as expected and I'm with you on that lead. Really enjoyed reading your observations and happy you liked the song.

Sorry to be late, John. I have been away travelling. I would have been one of the first lining up for tickets for the Dr. FEELgood and friends show :-) Wonderful vocal work and harmonies. I love that guitar treatment you have in the intro - which has a nice build to the drum and bass intro. VOX (double tracking?) on the 'playing blues' verse is cool. There is a nice laid back feel you guys have going here which makes this so easy to kick back to. And those blazing solos don't hurt either as they roll off the fretboard over the spot-on drums and bass. A lot of talent packed into one song. Kudos all 'round guys.
