Description
This is the second piece recorded with the Arturia Microbrute analog synth. All tracks created with the synth - including percussion. The plinking keyboard sound is a Buddha Box loop processed through the audio input. The opening sound wash was made by using the Spectral Dronemaker plugin on selected tracks.

Really cool sounds
The Spectral Dronemaker had to be my favorite and a good choice to use it at the beginning.

this is brilliant
now, i imagine that it takes quite a bit of work to create tracks like this, so some questions

do you find it frustrating creating and then multi tracking all the individual tracks as compared to plugging in a load of soft synths?

what is the process usually (if any)...bass first?...percussive pulse??...melody??

as this is a replacement for the guitar at the moment...how does it compare to the immediacy of simply plugging in and strumming?

will you ever go back to soft synths?

how is the shoulder?

cool - Q&A
since this is a new rig it's all exploration. i have an old analog synth so there is carryover from that - but still much to learn. i'm still not using any midi features so the first thing i do is set the clock to a bass feel / pulse. there is no read out so the bpm is quess work. on this one i started with the bass and then created the other tracks around it. i have to start playing in time since there is no control track - or i'll slip it around later. this does not replace guitar - but i do like it more than soft synths. when my old macbook crashed i lost all of my vst's and plugins so i'm using a very rudimentary garageband - almost like old school 4 track days. i can see getting back to soft synths eventually - but for now i'm doing my best to make this a performance rig with the addition of my guitar pedal board - which is crazy but fun.

You never know what to expect when you post a track! Fun to dive into this strange, interesting world of sound. Sounds just as unusual, original and cool as I hoped it would! Great that you always come up with new sounds and post them here.

Always something unique...
You get the coolest sounds from your toys, Bud. This was a lot of fun to listen to. And, yes, the jangly keyboard is such a great sound. Wish there was more of it. Anyway, your imagination is a wonderful thing, indeed.

i did a whole CD based on the Buddha Box
a few years back. i love the gritty sound and cheesy simplicity of it. glad you enjoyed it in this context.

Hi Kevin....
This is a great track. I love the joyous church organ sound throughout (or that's what it seems to represent to me) and the overall soundscape is 'happy'. I like it!

Take care.

The concepts alone baffle me.

As always your stuff is both challenging and engaging.

The slow morph over a Cyberpunk Down
Love the slow morph into new textures. You must be having fun! Man, I haven't learned in new instrument in nearly a decade. Acoustic piano, B3s and anything not new was my latest mantra. I'm gonna have to reconsider… :-)
Thanks for sharing these.
