Description
When writing an album it really takes everything you can give. Much like building a house the foundation must be strong to end up with a strong home. Using this metaphor you might say I've never started with a strong foundation. I've always winged it taking a chance on a melody and a phrase and seldomly felt comfortable with the end result. This song was written but never recorded for our last album a year ago. It didn't feel complete so I set it aside. now on this new album it seems to fit well and it's one of the first songs I ever recorded that feels like it had a strong foundation. From our new album, "The Breach" we proudly present, "The Anchor".
Thanks Brian Patterson, Scott Fugate and John Libby.

Cool back story
As you were explaining the strong foundation and that initially you felt this was incomplete - I was listening and thinking how strongly your whole presentation resounds here.

Y'all should be proud

Thanks
I wanted to convey that the process rarely feels as strong as it did with this song. Thanks for the listening.

As songwriters go you have one of the strongest foundation I'm aware of. It starts with that amazing voice. Tip of the cap to that killer band!

I thank you for the kind words. Honestly lately it seems not many people listen to music. Nice to know we have your ears.

Strong Conception
80s Power Ballad with the yes and no tension. The vocal is one of your best. If possible your writing is improving... although a swift middle section might have spiced up the formula.

Sometimes how we value things depend on their context. I'm really glad you found a home for this one - sounds cool to me. Usual SS standards all round of course although that sounds trite. The rest of us are jealous!

Thanks
I agree that context is important. It seems with art that the cliche of "eye of the beholder" has merit. Makes me think the average beholder may be missing out. Cheers

I like this song - it feels well written and arranged. You aren't crediting anyone with guitar so I'm assuming you are playing that yourself - and it is sounding pretty good. Your band is starting to develop its own identity and sound, and your writing is continuing to develop and mature. Nice work, guys!

Thanks! I don't credit myself because I'm not sure I think of myself as a guitar player. I do appreciate the kind words. Our sound is fairly our own I think. Seems like anyone can play along Cheers.

Four of my favorite musicians on the planet. Complex feelings, interesting chord choices bring this to life. I love how you sing from the heart Gaylen, with conviction. Great playing be the groove posse, Brian and Scott...and then there's John, who I think really helps defines the Sway sound with his consistent melodic thoughts and execution. Proud of you guys.

You sing with passion ...
... from the very first bar.   (With a killer group of musicians right behind you, swatting the rest of the balls out of the park.)   But it is the passion with which you perform the point-of-view of this song’s narrator that really “sells the shot.”

I am blown away by a very well-conceived lyric, spectacularly arranged and performed.

Passionate singing.
Fabulous emotional work, I think this is exactly what you wanted if it is the anchor piece for that album. Good luck with it, though if the rest of it is this good I don't have any worries...
