October
Here in Texas it's still warm enough to sit outside, go for a swim in natural water, and then noodle a little poolside.

Interesting
It's hard for me to get a read on this exercise. There seems to be a disjoint between the frivolity of the children swimming and the old man play his flute. Perhaps the flute is saying "Yes, you can enjoy life as blithely as a kid jumping into a waterhole through musical expression," but it sounds more (to me) like a lament that those carefree days are long gone and now have to be swapped out by contemplation. Of course, if so, there's nothing wrong with that. In fact, the live capture by iPhone creates performance art underscoring the gap between insouciant youth and adult awareness.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments.

Austin has two spring-fed pools; I go to one for swimming laps, I go to the other, Barton Springs, for just resting and chilling. Being there with nothing more than my trunks, a towel, and a book, puts me in a close to meditative state. I consider myself very lucky to be able to get away from the daily hustle like that, right in the middle of town. I decided to try and translate that state by bringing a flute and recording the result.

I was kind of surprised how much of the background comes through in this recording: it was a tuesday, so not exactly crowded. In fact, I don't remember the kids at all that you can so clearly hear, and while I was playing I was not aware of any contrast: I was purely translating my own peaceful state of mind.

But you're welcome to interpret this any way you want. The listener is an equal participant in the music.

Present
iPhone beside me in the grass, just a touch of reverb, cut 4db at 700 Hz, boost 3db at 4500. That makes it just a tick more transparent than the dry sound.

Glad you liked it.

nice use of the iPhone
I use mine a lot to record stuff I come up with on the guitar then I don't forget the progressions. I like the control you have with your flute and can tell you're totally in to it.

Beautiful playing Vic
definitely translates your serenity in the moment. The ambience adds a nice counterpoint in the beginning and then it seems to become less present as I tune into your playing. Cool.
