Description:
If you're familiar with the track 'Mother' (also on MacJams.com) you'll recognise this track. Actually it's just an earlier legacy mix of the aforementioned track 'Mother'. A couple of things to note a) there are no horns in this version, b) the guitars are mixed louder and slightly heavier, c) the mix is a bit more wet, d) the whole thing comes across a bit rockier (keep an ear out for the little guitar bit at the end in place of the horns in the original) e) this was just a temporary mix.
I posted this on MacJams just as a curio and to fill a gap whilst I work on new material. If it goes down well I might post some more legacy material. If you liked 'Mother' then here's another spin on the tune - if you don't like 'Mother' I'd try something else. Be cool :-)
Lyrics:
yeah - i know my mum is very special - that's what the people say, but no-one's seen the old bird in quite a while now, nah - not since she was put away. the men in white came one day, she had froth upon her face. she kicked, she spat and hissed at them - as they dragged her from this place. [this is a fucked up world] yeah yeah - i know people say i'm like my mum - in loads of ways. yeah - i steal, i swear and i've got curly hair and i'll turn tricks coz it pays! next week the parole board meets to decide my mother's fate [yeah yeah yeah] and if all goes well she leaves her cell and bernard - her lesbian lover [this is a fucked up world] and i could blame her for all my faults [she's a mental], but that is something i refuse [she's a mental], coz there's no fate but what we make* [she's a mental] and life is something we must choose [yeah].

Thanks Pie. &mdash 03/16/05 - 07:25:04 PM
Even being familiar with the "other" version of this great
tune it's nice to hear a more raw version. God I love this
song. Anyway, thanks for giving me something to bridge
the gap between your rockin' songs! Rock on! [ Reply to This ]
Delicious slice of Pie... &mdash 03/16/05 - 07:45:45 PM
You put it all together in this song. Almost as much a
rock as much as punk/grunge. I really am amazed at how
good your vocals, guitar, everything sounds.
Top tune.

Not yet familiar &mdash 03/17/05 - 08:36:30 PM
With the first version posted, but I'll look it up. This is a
great song. Good story, good punk attitude. I might be
tempted to pare it down even further (not sure the music
box in the intro was needed.) [ Reply to This ]
Heavier, Louder.... &mdash 03/17/05 - 09:30:32 PM
more Mothery goodness.
Excellent. This tune rocks in any incarnation. [ Reply to This ]
Excellent! &mdash 03/18/05 - 11:07:13 AM
Great to actually hear a British accent in this tune! Truly a
creatively professional production. Great guitar playing.
Great harmonizing. Glad you yanked the horns. Really
strong submission. Thx for posting this one. [ Reply to This ]
I love both &mdash 03/18/05 - 09:21:14 PM
It's all great. Even as an earlier version this is some
seriously pro-quality stuff.
Looks like you got hit by the uno-bomber. Friggin'
wanker trolls. No matter, we all know this song rules. [ Reply to This ]

Hello Mum &mdash 03/19/05 - 04:51:09 PM
quirky as Blur but those vocals are really Police-y. That vocal line at the end is just STING...I thought you were Chris Difford after the first one but now I reckon you're Gordon Sumner..
Excellent production, wonderful full, rich guitar sound. I'm not surprised it takes you so long to put this stuff out...it's sellably good (as they say in Taiwan).
Right at the very top of the heap..
p.s.Who are you....? [ Reply to This ]
Mother Legacy &mdash 03/20/05 - 12:12:49 PM
Very good. Sounds just like a "proper" recording. Don't
you just love the fact that you produced such a
professional sound using kit that cost a fraction of what it
would have been a couple of years back?
Thank you Apple and Mr Pie. [ Reply to This ]

of it btw) [ Reply to This ]

Be pround of this effort. Nice sound all the way around
and I like the added guitar bit. [ Reply to This ]
So good &mdash 03/22/05 - 08:07:40 AM
I really like this version. It is cleaner, somehow more
personal to me, more onstage alive. Really love the
combination of no care stylings and Sting-like lazy
articulations that work so well in both the genre and the
specific song's conceptual content. Excellent mixing (altho
some cymbal hits seem too distant, which is, I realize,
absurdly nitpicky). The is just so good. Love the
storytelling, especially, the psychological layers, and the
fantastic vocal performances and overall guitar work. [ Reply to This ]
my mum too &mdash 03/23/05 - 10:19:57 AM
Mum says thanks for the catchy tune. Really fun to listen
too. Reminded me of a trip to the grocery when I hid a
bunch of liqour bottles underneath mums things. When
we arrived at the check out i began to yell at her that I
wasn't gonna take her out on any more weekend passes if
she continued to try and hide liqour..... turned a few
heads...and turned her purple , she's blue now......thanks
again for the craziness [ Reply to This ]
Really excellent &mdash 03/23/05 - 04:02:36 PM
Love the raw quality of this song, you're obviously a very
talented musician. Keep up the good work! [ Reply to This ]
Intelli-punk &mdash 04/09/05 - 02:53:38 PM
Great sound. Way better than most punk. Intelli-punk, maybe. I loved my mother too. [ Reply to This ]

Amazing stuff... &mdash 05/15/05 - 12:05:45 PM
Ok, The Libertines/Babyshambles are the hype-band of
the moment, but this is at least 100 times better.
That don't compute... [ Reply to This ]

This IS a fucked up world &mdash 08/18/05 - 02:44:32 PM
I much prefer this version mate. But then you me and guitars
and my love of starting sentences with 'but'. Definately the
finished product.
Nice work. [ Reply to This ]
Nice &mdash 05/11/06 - 09:17:56 PM
Note sure if I commented on the earlier post, but this reminds me of early
Police. This is very polished and professional track.
I know I favorited or downloaded a version of this song. [ Reply to This ]
