Etude in D

Description
More of an etude in tone, rather than difficulty, though it did take me several days to noodle it out and get it to this stage..

These finger style pieces are probably an indulgence but every time I pick up the PRS I find something new.

X/Y AKG small diaphragm mics about 15" from the 14th fret. Plenty of ancillary noise but it is a by-product of chasing the immediacy I am looking for.

I took the photo in Cairns, in northern Australia, a month or so ago. A view from our apartment :-)

See what you think.

Kind regards,

Peter

Bit late...
I went away fishing just after posting this song and didn't get around to thanking people but I have the time now so here tis :-) Probably a bit premature with posting this but it gave it an immediacy. It is coming out of the guitar with a bit more fluidity these days. Thanks KC. Regards, Peter.

I must
admit Peter, that how anyone manages to play guitar with individual fingers is beyond me LOL...I think I was born with paddles instead of fingers,
This was really good to listen to as Cees said; very bright and melodic. I wasn't sure what an 'Etude' was (apart from a piece of music) so it seems it's what I should have been doing many years ago so that maybe i too would have been able to 'pick' guitar as well as you and the others here, cheers M

I think your approach to these instrumental compositions is alway very tasteful. I never hear anything "indulgent." I always hear them as your guitar singing a song. As a result you come up with instrumental pieces that would be accessible to listeners other than musicians impressed by technique. This one is particularly strong melodically and the performance equally strong. The variation of picking attack, hammers, and pulls add tons of sweet nuance. Nice clear recording.

More a reflection...
...than an etude per se. This is a very personal track. The frequent pauses suggest to me that you are contemplating the next move in the puzzle that is a whole composition, attacking each subsequent set of phrases with renew vigor. It is also something of a rondo for guitar solo in that you make frequent reference to your opening theme. When the whole thing picks up around 2:23 or so, the movement and energy really bring great excitement to the experience, somewhat like the wonderful photograph you've presented as song art to accompany this delightful playing. This is really quite a display of your skill in playing. I can fully understand what the PRS does for you when you pick it up to play. I find the same to be true with my Baldwin SD-10 (concert grand) that sits in my living room. Thanks for your wonderful, peaceful, thoughtful improvisation. Inspired work.

Nice work, Peter. A challenging piece of music, and you played it very well. The music is also packed full of emotion - it feels contemplative, hopeful and full of life. Very enjoyable piece, my friend!

Thanks, everyone
Thanks all. I am off fishing for a week and may not be able to comment much. I appreciate you all listening to this piece. I have actually tidied up the sound and made it a bit less bright and more "organic" and I really need to work on the various tempo changes a bit more. It is a very reflective work that I probably posted too soon. Take care and talk in a week or so. Regards, Peter.
