Description
This post is a small way of saying 'thank you' to our small community here
that has offered me so much encouragement over the years, even if
I don't spend as much time here as I used to.

2014 is almost over - another interesting, turbulent, challenging but also inspiring year with so many small and big things to be grateful for. I hope
we all continue to make music until we're old and mushy like cookie dough.

So, thank you! - a happy holiday season and tons of inspiration for
the new year to create more beautiful music than ever!!

:) Parichayaka

Filmic
I can imagine this opening a film. Stunning orchestral work. Very uplifting and mildly heroic feel. Like the swampy ending. It's a winner for me. :-)

Mildly heroic
"Mildly heroic" – I like that, too! Too many epic battle scenes in movies go too far over the top. You have painted a picture of The Subtle Warrior.

Ha!
The Mildly Heroic Subtle Warrior
Great to see you here, Richard. I was going more for a joyful, celebratory feel - then again being happy and full of joy is in itself an act of heroism.

If 'Return to Forever' ever reunites - this is the new album title:
The Mildly Heroic Subtle Warrior. Boy oh boy is MJ awesome.

Quality over quantity
It doesn't matter how often you come around, not as long as you deliver up quality productions like this Holiday feast when you do make a return visit.

As I age I seem to be becoming more physically brittle and crumbly as that cookie you mention .. although now that I think about it my brain might be getting a little mushy ...

Thanks Warren!
What can you do when the mind get mushy and the bones brittle, as long as there is enough heart to appreciate music and enough energy to create some, things can't be that bad! :)

in some ways reminds me a bit of trans siberian express. classical with a bit of a rock feel. and of course they do their turing around the holidays. a very rich sound and mix. most enjoyable

I have already become old and mushy for what it is worth, proud to say, neither like cookie dough nor oatmeal...lol. Thanks for the wonderful music. The violin line is tops! Always a great listen here!

Great stuff
Brilliant strings at the beginning. Those drums are delightfully light and strong at the same time. The violin 3:53 is great - is that real recording? It sure sounds like it!

I love that chord sequence there as well, it's one of my favourites for "uplifting encouraging"!

I love the wonder that's instilled in up as 4:45.

Great stuff, and what a lovely notion for a piece. It almost makes me want to do my own sort of thank you song, but I think now it'll be only ripping you off! Lovely work here :)
Parichayaka said 1071 days ago (December 12th, 2014)
Means a lot...
coming from an sound expert like yourself. The strings are tweaked from a Symphobia 1 demo (I can use it for 15 mins for each session which makes for very productive work sessions). The best and only staccato strings I've found, that come through alive in a complicated mix.

So happy that you liked the track - I think you totally got what I wanted to convey - and uplifting and encouraging feel. Had a great time creating it, I'm so glad it seems to come through.

The drums are a combination of two drum kits from the Komplete library and a Guitar Rig effect for punch (the bass drum without other the 29 tracks playing is unbelievably strong).

And for the idea of 'ripping me off' - no such thing here! You're sharing so many mixing and mastering tricks and recently even instrument settings with us - if this inspires you to create something new, if anything I'd be humbled:)

Building orchestration...
...accomplished like a pro. I especially like the chorale-sounding horns holding onto those chords in the first section of the piece. Such interesting inventions as you progress through this piece, adding layer upon layer of sound, but in such a way that the core is not obstructed. I think the percussion track keeps it all focused so well, too. Masterful insights here, and carefully recorded. (Though I am 9 months late in listening, I am nevertheless eagerly enthusiastic about this piece as though it were completely new ... as it is to me now.)

And thank YOU
This has that powerful swelling feel-good characteristic that one sometimes hears in in the wrap up to a movie, tv show or sometimes an advert. Deftly handled as you pass the development around the orchestra. I know I'm REALLY late to this party but fortunately for all of us your brilliance lives on in the MJ archives :) A thoroughly stirring and joyous musical ride and a study in how to do this kind of music very very well! Thanks for letting it be downloaded too! Be well.

-- My Favorites -- I've been making noise since I was a little kid; piano, drums and other instruments. Later on I focused on everything else but music, until I started learning meditation with Sri Chinmoy, who has also given me a whole new idea... [see more]
