Description
well, what i thought was going to be a one week break from music ended up being more like 4 months due to a wide variety of reasons.
anyway i recorded this about 4 months ago. the lyrics came to mind at a time when the morning sun was aligned with the east west streets while commuting to work. of course the reflected sunlight was a bit rough on the eyes from the cars ahead.

Lyrics
Chromium Sun

bouncing off glass a glint of steel
atomic bomb assaults my eyes
x-ray vision cast on my mind
bright white laser perfectly aligned
heat seek missile finds me in time
reflecting exposing my inner vision

liquid silver the chromium sun
it can warm your soul
it can fry your brain
liquid silver the chromium sun
it brightens your day
white light white heat today

when the clouds slowly drift in
a cast of silver reflects from within
chromium sun wants to break through
chromium sun wants to be close to you
like a warm atomic heart mother
to her hot white sun

liquid silver the chromium sun
it can warm your soul
it can fry your brain
liquid silver the chromium sun
it brightens your day
white light white heat today

you curse the light that is sheds
and you know that it gets in your head
and you deny you ever said a thing
chromium sun

alternative indeed...
Chromium sun and blazing lyrics. A bit of a departure for you, Vic... but maybe not that much as your guitar is killer, carrying the music and your singing is classic Vic, of one who is resigned to the penetrating sun in the eye and maybe in the mind... Kudos...

thanks jack
the sun has been a bit harsh this summer in eastern wa.
i have to imagine that you have a wide selection of sun glasses considering where you live :-)

I'd love to know how you get such a big sound out of your guitars. As always much admired, both for songwriting and production.

Thanks Victor
for big guitars if i'm keeping them near center i usually record in stereo. if i want a guitar track to dominate to side I'll use the direction mixer plug in instead of just panning it... makes a big diference.

Breaks
Amazing how a short break can turn into a long one Vic.
Very Bowie-esque to me, and very 80s also in a more general way. I'm not crazy about electronic drum sounds usually, but you have made them work here because they are in context. Great guitars, with a little George Harrison going on. Vocals perfect for the song - am hearing some timing things which sound a little weird, but then I've just spent the last few days in various planes moving from one side of the world to the other, and my own timing is less than normal at the moment - I even walked in my sleep last night, which I haven't done since I was a kid. Things should settle though :) Good post!
Cheers,
Neil

i guess globe trotting can do that. the electronic drums started just as a whim. i wasn't surre if they would work, but i liked what i heard. and it seems i can now set up more than one drummer track, i couldn't before. careful with the sleep walking. i remember as a teen, while camping, i was dreaming that i was hopping around on trails in my sleeping bag. until the next morning i noticed that the bottom of my sleeping bag was dirty.

Scorched earth
Talk about being blinded by the light!

Great exercise at capturing a fleeting moment in song .. what it's like to be alive, human and driving to work.

Hey, listening to this .. my whole life flashed before my eyes .. right before the atomic blast of chromium sun fried my brain.

I prefer guitar to keyboards, even when it comes to adding colour to a tune. Some satisfyingly Crim tones on this one, Vic. The Boss box, I assume?

Oh, my!!!
I wasn't ready for those opening beats. Made me sit up and listen. ... I'm just catching up to the 19th century, but this one really rocks, Vic. Best line: "like a warm atomic heart mother." That's inspired. "It can fry your brain," indeed.

Welcome back from sabbatical, Vic. We all need one every now and then. Interesting mix of styles in this one. The electronic drums give a more contemporary feel to the classic guitar tones. Love the soundscape you develop during the verses. Like the lyrics, too. Impressive. Thanks, Peter.

Cool track Vic
At first the drum machine sound caught me off guard - different than what you usually do - and then it all came together and made sense within the context. The break at 3:00 is pretty awesome.

i hear electronic drums being used more often the last few years in a rock context. so i thought i'ld give a shot to hear what could result from mixing it up a bit.

Polishing the chrome
I love the dreamy feel to this, and its unusual to hear you going for electroic drums.... i usually start off there and then chicken out.
I cant believe how prolific you are, you must have enough tracks for multiple albums, and all great quality.
