I wrote this little piece 26 years ago, part of a series of flute/piano duos composed for a friend. I don't know why I thought of it this morning, but I did, and decided to record it just for fun. I hope you will find it peaceful. The score can be found here:

The photo is of Buck Lake in Yellowstone. It was taken a couple of months ago by my friend, Kathie Lynch, a naturalist and very fine photographer who lives part-time in Yellowstone tracking the wolf population.

This lovely Paul
Peaceful indeed and appropriate piece for the reflective picture by Kathie. Makes me want to get away from Brooklyn and spend some time in big nature. Just closing my eyes is pretty good with this music. Thanks!

I don't think
I have anything from 26 years ago! I like the pastoral vibe of the compo, it feels like a fresh dawn to me. When I saw the time, I had to look again because it seemed so much shorter than four minutes. Guess I got lost...

A page from the early years
Wow. This is so evocative and made all the more intriguing in the fact it was given another performance so long after its initial conception. Like dusting off an old vinyl album in the attic but it suddenly starts dancing and resonating in shimmering colors before you. This one wrapped around me and made me feel a bit misty, thinking of the advancing years of all of us.

always a pleasure to hear a work by you Paul - new or in this case old. I find it interesting to reflect on output from earlier times. I wonder how we change. If so, for the better?
Like the photo by your friend, this is so serene, not a wave of turbulence to be found. Pavane is a fitting title for this lovely and soothing work.

Very sweet
Very soothing piece. Perfect for these troubled times... Seems they have been going on for at least 26 years ;-)

Few things happening over the last couple of weeks so I am a bit late, Paul. Sorry. Tranquil and satisfying. The additional instrumentation adds significantly to the mood. Much enjoyed. Thanks, Peter.
