Description
A song of mine from the PBGB Shed.
We have a new, rejuvenated collection of musicians at the moment, and things are gelling nicely. Of our 7 regular "shedders", this song features 5 of them/us.
I did a version of "Feel The Beat" with Sister Anne Cozean in 2009 - this is a vastly revamped live version (except for the vocals and the guitar solo, which are done in the privacy of my studio).
Steve Faggotter - guitar
Louise Nadin - percussion
Peter Reid - drums
Dawson Graham - backing vocals
Neil Porter - bass, vocal, guitar solo and production

Lyrics
Feel The Beat
© 2009 Neil Porter/Bill Cairncross

You want to do it, you try so hard
Want things to come naturally
Turn up the radio
Put on a CD
You can get there just feel the beat
Close your eyes
Feel the beat
Move your body ‘til the groove locks in yeah
Clap your hands
Move your feet
When this song ends you can do it all again

You can’t write it on a sheet of paper
Don’t have to read it from a cold white page
Just listen closely let the music take you
Take a chance, leave your cage
It’s time to let your heart take over
The muse is calling, you can tag along
Close your eyes don’t run for cover
Lose yourself in every song

Don’t start out with inhibitions
Leave your left brain at the door
Loosen up
Move with the music
Slide and sway and let the good times roll

Grab the moment
Take a chance
Kick off your shoes, get up and dance
Don’t stop moving
Wait and see
Close your eyes and feel the beat

You can’t write it on a sheet of paper
Don’t have to read it from a cold white page
Just listen closely let the music take you
Take a chance, leave your cage
It’s time to let your heart take over
The muse is calling, you can tag along
Close your eyes don’t run for cover
Lose yourself in every song

Growth
After a growth spurt (and we are still growing, right?) .. it's a fine thing to revisit one's catalog .. to see how differently things can turn out .. especially when you work with a new group pf musicians.

I'm feeling it here!

Feel The Beat
Sinuous groove. Nice work by the Shed Street Sliders (Mark IV) :-) Philip and I have to get up there next year. I will work on it. Thanks, Neil.

Feel the Beat
Characteristically bright sound, solid beat, warm vocal. It must be those purple egg shakers that are giving it a lift! Good one Neil. I note PeterB's comment too - must make the happen!

The Beat
As Peter said, this has a sinuous quality - to me, that feels like it should be played in the evening in a warm climate. The band sounds great Neil. Those short guitar touches between verses are just enough to add a lift and the ending is unusual but works great. Pro sounding production too.

Cheers and Happy Christmas from the GWN.

Always stellar...
...always thoughtfully worked out in the band and the general arrangement. "Feel the beat," indeed. You nailed a solid vibe that is almost like a mantra as the piece moves along, kind of getting into your (my) bones and not letting go. Such a solid composition and production. Congratulations to all your collaborators.
