Waiting By The Stars

Description
A song about realizing someone is gone forever and having a passive-aggressive moment about it.

This is from a project Matt and I have been working on for a while inspired by Cold War Numbers Stations. They were/are basically mysterious shortwave radio stations that broadcast cryptic (and sometimes creepy) messages which are probably meant for spies. Read about them here. We were expecting to hoard these songs and release them all together as an album, but I a) am slow and b) injured my voice singing this song and couldn't sing without pain for more than six months after, so couldn't record. We have a couple more of these in the vault, but we decided that we should probably start putting them out in the world before we looked as old as Boris Yeltsin. I'm especially fond of Matt's arrangement on this one.

The recording we use here is "2 Letter 'YS'" under a Creative Commons license from The Conet Project.

Lyrics
Under starlit skies
your Judas kiss
felt like it lasted years
and the veins in my wrist
beat with your bad ideas

When the sky turned gold
you said wait by the stars
I’ll be back in a while
how could I say no?
my heart’s in your hand
and you squeeze it all the time

Don’t go too far
or forget your way home
it’s so easy to get lost in the dark
when you’re out there alone

Shoot me down
shoot me down
shoot me down to the ground

If you’re feeling lonely
and need to borrow my heart
I’ll be right where you left me
waiting by the stars

Shoot me down
shoot me down
shoot me down to the ground

I’ve got a map to the stars
I see the Universe

When the sky turned gold
you said wait by the stars
I’ll be back in a while
how could I say no?

CHORUS

(Numbers station recording)

Shoot me down/I’ve got a map to the stars

If you’re feeling lonely
and need to borrow my heart
I’ll be right where you left me
waiting by the stars X 2

Don’t go too far

Great to hear
your voice again Lisa!
The tune, lyrics and backing all top class. Vocals are another step up from there.
Bad news about your health - I hope things are on the improve for you.
Listening to this makes me nostalgic for the "good old days" of MacJams. A hint of "Life In a Northern Town in there? Or maybe I'm just obsessed with it :)
You and Matt sure haven't lost "it"!
Cheers fro Oz,
Neil

Great
To hear from you guys again, you have been missed, even if played locally from time to time of course ;-)

Sounds like a great project, looking forward to more.

Thanks and take care,
Henke

Number Stations...
So much more fun (and less creepy) than I expected from reading the description (and than number stations!). Sorry to hear about the voice...hope you're A OK again.

Super upbeat arrangement and your vocals are excellent and full of energy. Especially like the hook. Great mix too! Brilliant. All the best for the album.

Pop-tastic
This has a great light, poppy feel to it, and feels like a lostlate 80s/early 90s gem. I especially love your singing in the first verse - there's a great passion/aggression in how you sing this that i havent heard before. Lyrics are just wonderful - simple and emotive, with the right twist of darkness.
Open the vaults, please.

Worth the wait
Despite the delays .. you two haven't lost your touch at creating vibrant songs. This is simply a delight to listen to. I hope your voice recovers fully so you can make more music.

Thoughtful
A pleasant step out of my own musical box. I enjoy the way it moves into the transition at 2:56... then back. Hope your great voice heals quickly!

How in the world...
...did I miss this?

This is GREAT...I love the bass drum sound, for starters, and how it melds with the bass line...and whatever the net-post-harpsichord sound is, I love it...

The dynamics are neat, too...a lot of stuff based on electronic instruments tends to forget about dynamics...

I also think this is one of my favorite sets of Lisa vocals....and I love the lyrics....

&t illuminati & ledebutant met right here at Macjams in 2005 and had so much fun on our first collaboration that we thought it would be great to do a whole album together. Why should 1,500 miles and the fact that we've only met once stop us? Mat... [see more]
