Papa's Got A Brand New Bag (live)

A cover of James Brown's hit song from the sixties. "Papa" and "I Feel Good" are James' two most popular hits. This one was our favorite and was recorded by my old, old band, The Twilights in 1968. Our lead singer, Herk McGruder, nails the the vocal. Great times back then as we played so many venues in the greater Philly area where soul music reigned...

Lead vocal: Herk
Lead guitar: Vince
Bass: Carl
Drums: Dave
Tenor Sax #1 and solo: Jack
Tenor Sax #2: Wes

Soul Brother Number One
Good faithful rendition here. James was one of a kind and took rhythm and blues to new places. He was a showman too. Go on youtube and you can see one of his live performances where he was doing dance moves that everybody copied.

Herk, indeed...
A great voice for soul music. I already posted When Something Is Wrong With My Baby where he shines, I'll be posting at least one more, another cover of a James Brown song. I'm glad you like these oldies.

Vince, the guitarist and band leader - tight both in his playing and how he wanted the band to play.
Cheers and thanks!
