Description
One of my buddy who listened to some of my macjam postings once told me "Why don't you make a dubstep song", and I was like "What in the world is that?"
Anyway, fast forward a few years, and there were several updates to iPad garageband, most notably the inclusion of Drummer (although it misses quite a few drummers of Logic Pro X). So this drummer "Jasper" apparently makes some bombastic dubstep beats, and I was intrigued and gave him a try.
This is the result, and thanks goes to Jasper for the great beats. Of course, I still have no idea what dubstep is...

Hope you guys enjoy. Cheers.

Excuse me
You actually did this on the iPad?!?! That's fantastic! A great and fun piece, with amazing beats by Jasper and a lot of nice sounds on top of that.

I have gotten that question about making a dubstep piece too but I seem to know about as much as you do about it :-/

Thanks and take care,
Henke

Thanks
Hey there. Yes, all tracks were played, recorded and mixed on iPad, and only final "mastering" was done on Logic. Ah, that elusive "dubstep" thing... but I enjoyed making this one regardless of genre. I'm glad you did too. Thanks a lot for the great comments. Cheers.

This is an interesting piece. You mix a number of elements together in a unique way (including those dubstep effects), creating an innovative soundscape for your exceptional guitar work. All in all I really got a kick out of this piece - I felt the percussion, as well as the electronica effects, while extremely interesting, tended to distract from the wonderful guitar work. I think you are almost there with this piece - find a way to weave the percussion and guitar work together to compliment the guitar solo while maintaining the percussion's unique position in the song, and you got a hit here.

I know you didn't ask for my opinion, and truth is I generally don't give opinions out unless they are asked for, but I think you have something pretty special here - a few tweaks and interesting piece becomes a great piece. No matter, still a very enjoyable listen - thanks!

Thank you
Hello there. As a hobby man, professional insight is always appreciated. :) I agree that the mix and production could be improved, and those heavy beats could get distracting after some minutes. As an excuse, I wanted to let it loose and let the beats fly on this version. In a way, you could say that the mix itself reflects my own state of mind. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks a lot for your kind comment. Cheers.

Drummers
Hello Harald. I actually had so much fun while making this one, I am thiking about giving one more go with Jasper. Now that would make Kyle and Logan (Apple rock drummers) angry... :) Thank you and cheers.

Dub with guitar
The description for Jasper reads "He is inspired by heavy metal drummers", so the rock guitar combination just might work. Thank you for the comment and the listen. Cheers.

Great guitar lead...
...the percussion is, well, insistent! It's amazing that you could put this together with Garage Band. It's kind of an "epic" number, too, with all kinds of interesting things that keep popping up to keep the number alive. It's pretty unrelenting, but has a real majestic quality to it.

insistent beats
Hello Paul. The word "insistent" sounds about right about the percussion. :) I'm glad this one kept you interested. Sometimes I think to myself, "When will I be able to write a simple song that is also interesting?" Well, someday, maybe. :) Thank you and cheers.

An ipad?
I've barely manged a simple guitar and vocal track with mine!

Really impressive.

Fine guitar work.

And I don't know what dubstep is either....

Cheers

Hey, Jay, if I dubstep I just fall down :-) Creative to the max, here. The fluid, soaring guitar acts as counterpoint to all contemporary effects. Plenty to hang on to. Perhaps a final statement rather than a fade out? Thanks. Take care.

Hello Peter. I agree that the fade out is a little premature. It would be nice to add a few more bars and melodies at the end, but you could say that I simply ran out of time and gas. :) Thank you for the kind comment and checking this one out. Cheers.

This is one of those I have to listen to twice to truly appreciate it. Lots of good stuff going on here. There are a few phrases that would stand as a hook for a whole new song. Cool composition,,,much enjoyed.

I have an iPad...
I played this for it to get it ready so I could do something similar. It caught fire and imploded... So I don't think Siri believed I could do this... I sort of heard something about "Self destruct sequence initiated..." Just as well... I'm pretty sure I couldn't come close. Nicely done!

Dubstep?
Got me there man.

Hey, this reminds me a bit of King Crimson. Got some Fripp-like leads on the guitar there! Ambitious! Cool!

Be well friend!

Better than most dubstep
Thanks to the lovely guitar work. In fact, I could do without the dubstep drumming and have some traditional rock drumming. Anyway, I know who to come to for some fab modern lead guitar when I've finished moving house.

Not sure about the dubstep thing, but I know I like those guitar lines and the synth flashes! A hint of Van Halen in there, I think. Impressive work, Jay.
